洛杉矶 · 整套民居 · 4室4床3.0卫 · 可住8人 · Bohemian Modern Home In Silver Lake
This 1950s Silverlake Hills home has been lovingly renovated into a cool escape. The main house is a three-bed, two-bath home that features a mix of vintage 50’s appliances and updated, hand-built modern touches. There is an entirely separate lower studio apartment that features a living room with 12-foot-high sliding translucent doors and was featured in Barbara Bestor’s Bohemian Modern coffee table book. The house is close to the best of everything Silver Lake offers. The home is a quintessential Silverlake, “Bohemian Modern.” This property is two units in one. The upstairs is a three-bedroom two two-bath mid-century modern home. The fully furnished kitchen is a mix of new and old, with period correct fixtures, but updated with Heath Tile. The dining room seats six and looks out upon the local hills and Griffith Park mountains. The primary bedroom features an ensuite. The 2nd bedroom has custom built-ins and a large working desk. The third bedroom has a cozy reading nook and plenty of toys tucked away in the closet. Both bathrooms have been updated, complete with Thassos marble showers. The upper unit has a rear deck, which is perfect for morning coffee. It also opens out onto a modern gated front yard. The lower studio is a spacious industrial zen retreat with its own entrance. The 12-foot tall ceilings and a fully furnished kitchen give it its own unique charm. The living space opens up into a towering indoor/outdoor room with sliding translucent doors. This one-of-a-kind room defines the California indoor-outdoor experience and earned it a feature in Sunset Magazine. This home was featured in Barbara Bestor’s Bohemian Modern, the book that defined Silverlake architecture. The studio looks out onto the large backyard that has both a terraced view and a large grassy area to hang out or play. Silverlake Sanctuary is convenient for a wide range of guests, including, families, friends, and groups of different sizes.
Katie was incredibly communicative and helpful before we arrived at her home. She went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as easy as possible. The location is very convenient and always good to be a couple of blocks away from a Whole Foods!
Katie was a communicative, friendly host. She was extremely responsive and helpful. There were plenty of toys and books to keep our kids entertained, as well as a nice yard, and plenty of space for our family to be comfortable. We had everything we needed and recommend the space - and Katie as a host!
Silverlake has become a cultural epicenter over the years. Silver Lake is diverse, eclectic, and above all, authentic. It offers some of the best of L.A.,’s culture and culinary scene, with close proximity to Hollywood and Downtown L.A., incredible hilltop views, independent boutique shopping, music, and dining. It is home to an eclectic mix of celebrities, creatives, professionals, an ever-increasing number of families as well as long-time residents.
One of the neighborhood’s most famous features is its massive namesake body of water, Silver Lake Reservoir, which offers a popular 2.25-mile loop for runners, walkers and cyclists.. Grab a cold brew at neighborhood staple Lamill Coffee down the street and take in the views of the Reservoir and the San Gabriel Mountains in the distance from the Silver Lake Meadow. The hillside is dotted with iconic Mid-century modern homes, designed by architect Richard Neutra, who lived in Sivlerlake and Rudolph Schindler. After your reservoir stroll, head back down the street to catch happy hour at L&E Oyster Bar’s bright, airy upstairs patio or make your dinner reservations at the foodie-favorite Italian bistro, Alimento or Botanica for vegetables, cocktails, and natural wine. Later, catch a rock show at a number of the local venues like Silverlake Lounge, or Zebulon. Or just grab a bottle of wine from Silver Lake Wine for a cozy night in.
The main hub of Silver Lake is Sunset Junction, a bustling, walkable strip along Sunset Boulevard with dozens of trendy shops such as boho chic Mohawk General Store, clothing and home goods shop The Odells, and the neighborhood's favorite bar-stocking shop, Bar Keeper, which specializes in vintage barware and local and small-batch spirits.
The restored section of the LA River has become a hotspot for walking, cycling, and kayaking (yep). Rent bicycles from Spoke Cafe and head down the river to see Blue Heron looking for fish. Stop for coffee at LA Colombe, or dinner at Salazar, the repair shop turned hip taco spot.
If all the shopping and people-watching tires you out, there are plenty of places to refuel. For your caffeine fix, take your pick among Intelligentsia (known equally for its pour-over and people-watching), Alfred [“but first”] Coffee, or MatchaBar.
Silver Lake is one of the best places to be in Los Angeles.
For those who are flying in to LAX, we would recommend anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours (It's LA, and traffic can really affect travel time). We are closer to Burbank, where it takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour to get to the airport. We are conveniently located near both the 5 and 101 freeways. There is a bus service Silverlake Blvd. The LA Metro stops about 10 minutes away from our house, in Vermont. For cyclists, we are about a 10-minute ride to Griffith Park & a 5-minute ride to the LA River bike path.
