Cherai is blessed with Both natural and man made attractions; Some of the popular attractions are as follows;
Munambam Fising Harbour : 4 Kms
The fishing harbour attracts thousands of visitors in every year for buying fresh seafood direct from fishers at Fisherman's Wharf with reasonable prize. Even with small breeze, the area where the boats park is nice and calm and it seems like a lot of the birds hang out over there.
Pallipuram fort : 5 Kms
(The oldest European monument in India) Built in 1503 by the Portuguese and also known as “Aya Kotta”, this fort is the oldest European monument in India. It was constructed as an outpost to safeguard the ancient port of Muziris. The Dutch captured the fort in 1661, in 1789 it was sold to the King of Thiruvathamkoor, and in 1795 it came under the ownership of the British East India Company. The three-story hexagonal structure is a very well-preserved Portuguese bastion. The fort was repaired between1596 and 1605 with a facade added in pure Manuelino style, possibly the only such building in India.
Paddy Fields : 2 Kms
Representing the rice-producing heart of Cherai, the emerald green paddy fields are cultivated below sea level to create a charming pastoral environment. These water-logged fields tend to be single crop areas, mostly rice. However, following the harvest, paddy fields are used to farm fish, mainly prawns. Exotic flora and fauna can be discovered in and around the paddy fields, allowing you to enjoy encounters with butterflies and spot dozens of alluring species of both birds and fish.
Kodungallur Bhagavathy Temple : 10 Kms
Kodungallur Bhagavathy Temple is in Kodungallur town in Thrissur District of Kerala situated on the west coast, was once a great port of the Chera rulers of Tamilnadu, It was known by the Greek as the musris.Most of the surronding people of Kodungallur believe that this temple was, in the olden days, a Shiva shrine and it was Parasurama who installed Sri Kurumba Bhagavathi close to the idol of Shiva. Although this is a small town and has several temples, most of them are Shiva shrines. The poojas are conducted under direct instructions from Sri Bhagavathi Herself. Five 'Sri Chakras' installed by Adi Shankaracharya are believed to be the main source of the powers of this deity.
