Oahu is a busy place. We were taken aback when we first arrived how busy the road was in front of the house but after our first day trip to the north shore area we realized how chill the west side is. Once inside you totally feel like you are on the beach. Automated shades open up the view along the backside of the house with the touch of a button. During the week you pretty much have about a half mile stretch of beach to yourself. Weekends you share it with maybe fifty other people. Clement and Angie were very upfront with us that Oahu has a homeless issue. About 50 yards up the beach is a public park where a few families have taken up residence. They keep to themselves and we were never concerned about it. In fact, every night we slept with the sliding glass doors along the back open so that we could get the cool ocean breeze. All in all we really enjoyed our stay. The beds are super comfortable, the house has big gathering areas (inside and out) and a great kitchen.

As you drive from the airport, you may notice homeless tents in certain areas. It's important to approach this aspect of the community with compassion and understanding. While these areas may be visible, they are generally tucked away and do not impact the tranquility of our immediate surroundings. After the first day, you'll likely find that these sights fade into the background, allowing you to fully appreciate the natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere.
Occasionally, you might encounter some unhoused individuals at the beach park to the left. We encourage you to be congenial and treat everyone with respect, embodying the true aloha spirit that defines the local culture. The neighborhood fosters a sense of community, and by embracing this spirit, you contribute to the positive energy that makes our corner of Maili a special and welcoming place.
