Manor Farm House sits amidst unspoilt countryside close to The National Trust Stourhead Estate, with stunning views and miles of exquisite scenery all around. This generous house can be found on the edge of the village of Kilmington, and on the border of Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset. Thought to be the original manor house for the village of Kilmington, Manor Farm House is an attractive stone property which dates from early 19th century, and offers generous and comfortable accommodation for up to five guests. Well-located, sitting within Wiltshire, and close to the borders of Dorset and Somerset, you are spoilt for choice when looking for enjoyable days out, fun and adventure. Within a short car journey or cycle ride you have the choice of visiting the local towns of Mere, Gillingham, Shaftesbury, Frome, Wincanton, Warminster, and Shepton Mallet, and the many delightful villages in between. Sitting just a mile away from King Alfred's Tower, and close to all of the stunning and world-famous National Trust Stourhead Estate, the location is perfect for exploring the amazing gardens, lakes, woodland, forest, and Palladian mansion. From the front facing windows of your holiday home, you can gaze at the rolling green hills of chalk grassland known as The Deverills, where you will find a collection of delightful rural villages, and a multitude of Bronze Age bowl barrows, neolithic long barrows and Iron Age settlements. On arrival at Manor Farm House, you enter in to a hallway off which you will find a panelled sitting room with wood burning stove, television and comfortable seating. A large study, also with wood burning stove, sits at the front of the house too, and offers opportunities for reading, writing or playing a board game on the puzzle table. As you continue through the ground floor, you will find a piano room where you are invited to 'tickle the ivories', and you then continue on to the generous kitchen with electric Aga and island, and a spacious dining area overlooking the garden. A utility room and a cloakroom complete the ground floor accommodation. Stairs take you up to the first floor where you will find a king-size bedroom with great front facing views and an en-suite bathroom. A second king-size bedroom, and a single bedroom, share the well-appointed family bathroom with separate shower enclosure which completes the picture of your spacious holiday home. Whether you are looking for a relaxing break away, or a base for visiting some of the local sites and attractions including nearby Longleat, Stonehenge and Glastonbury, Manor Farm House is the perfect choice for up to five guests. The National Trust owned Stourhead Estate is just a mile and a half away, and the perfect day out for everyone. Enjoy the breathtaking 18th century landscape garden with lakeside walks, grottoes and classical temples. Stourhead House, a Palladian mansion with regency library and art collection sits at the heart of the Estate, and the village of Stourton has a National Trust shop and restaurant, an art gallery, pub, ice cream parlour and farm shop for you to enjoy.
Just under a mile away from Manor Farm House you will find King Alfred's Tower, an amazing tall red-brick folly, from where you can enjoy views of Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, and explore one of the nearby Iron Age hill forts.
The pretty village of Maiden Bradley is just a five minute drive or cycle away, and where you will find The Bradley Pantry, a popular grocers and coffee shop, and pleasant country pub The Bradley Hare.
Highlighted as one of The Times ‘Best places to live in Britain', Frome is a welcoming and charming town, with a wealth of history and culture and just 10 miles away. Packed with historic buildings and independent shops. As the original Somerset market town, Frome is an important destination hosting thriving markets since the time The Domesday Book, and today there are regular markets three times a week.
Just a short car journey or cycle away, you will find the small Wiltshire town of Mere, and pretty Dorset village of Bourton, and also the Dorset town of Gillingham, all with shops to explore and pubs and cafes to enjoy. The Somerset towns of Wincanton and Shepton Mallet are also close by.
Right in the South West corner of Wiltshire you will find The Deverills, a string of villages between Warminster and Mere with the word Deverill in their name. As you drive down the B3095 you pass through Longbridge Deverill, Hill Deverill, Brixton Deverill, Monkton Deverill and Kingston Deverill. This is area is quintessential Wiltshire, with rolling green hills of chalk grassland full of history evidenced by a multitude of Bronze Age bowl barrows, neolithic long barrows and Iron Age settlements.
Being close to the borders of Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset, you are perfectly placed for trips of Shaftesbury with its iconic Gold Hill of ‘Hovis' advert fame, Longleat Safari and Adventure Park, Stonehenge, and the stunning city of Salisbury with is fantastic shops and restaurants and historic cathedral.
Wonderful Bath can be reached in under forty minutes, and is another recommendation for an interesting and enjoyable day out, visit the iconic Roman Baths, famous Pultney Bridge, and exploring the fabulous selection of shops, restaurants and museums.
Glastonbury, famous for its iconic Tor, Abbey and known for its music festival, can be reached in under forty five minutes.
