Chilhowie · 帐篷 · 1室1床1.0卫 · 可住10人 · Glamping w/ Spring & 30 Acres
Welcome to Southwestern Virginia, Heart of Appalachia. Feel refreshed when you stay at this rustic gem. Cook in the outdoor kitchen with a view of the valley. Hike 30 mountain acres. Take a hot outdoor shower. Count the satellites zipping across the starry night sky. Fall asleep to the sound of the mountain spring flowing by camp. Having a property like this to share with other outdoor lovers and creative minds has always been a dream of mine! I'm so excited to share this land with you. It sat for about 10 years before I found it. I spent last season getting it ready for you to enjoy this season. It is about 30 acres with a creek at the bottom and a spring that comes out of the mountains. The majority of the property is gorgeous mountain acreage with hundreds of feet of elevation from the front to the very back of the land. You are more than welcome to hike and explore. There is about one clear acre on the roadside of the creek next to the gravel guest parking lot. There are about 2 more clear acres once you cross the bridge over the creek. There are a few paths up to "base camp," where there is a 40' pole barn tucked against the mountain woods with a beautiful view of the valley. There, you will find your tent, the outdoor shower, the outdoor kitchen, the firepit, and plenty of seating and table space. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need, except food. There is even a medium sized cooler for guests, just bring ice. Solar string lights throughout camp come on at dusk, providing cozy lighting for the evening. The stars can be stunning out here, with the sky often clear enough to count the satellites passing by. The neighbors across the valley have a donkey. If you've never heard a donkey heehaw your in for a treat. 😄 About once a day he gets excited and heehaws. You can also often see cows and deer hanging out in a field across the valley. The land is situated in a quiet valley neighborhood and is not listed as a public campsite. This is my private land, which I'm sharing with you. Please respect the noise levels in the valley, especially after dark. Sound can travel through the valley, and I want to keep my neighbors happy so I can continue to invite guests to my land. I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness during your stay.
Steven is a great guy and a great host, he was very friendly and helpful. The property is beautiful and well kept, and we had zero issues. This is for sure a stay for the books. Would 10/10 recommend staying here. Thank you again Steven!
My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and we loved our stay! The host was great and very hospitable! He was super responsive and very helpful. He provided many kitchen appliances and other amenities that one would need for camping. We were overly prepared because we did not realize how much was already provided at this site. This truly was a glamping experience with a comfortable amount of space for a small group trip. There were two different toilet setups and a shower with hot water. There were also two separate sinks with running water. There were several sponges and cleaning supplies for the kitchen utilities. The place is also setup with outdoor string lights which are remote controlled which adds to the calming aesthetics. One of our favorite things about this place was the amazing fire pit which has a built-in rotatable grill top. With all that being said, we would love to come back and explore the area more and enjoy another fun glamping experience!
Coming from Chilhowie VA (Route 81): As you come in via Carlock Creek Road you will roll through the open countryside and then you'll squeeze into the mountains where it it's now heavily wooded and slopes up steeply on both sides of the road. The creek will be on your left at this point. Once you cross over a small bridge and the creek is very close to the road on your right the gravel parking lot is the next driveway on the right with a black mailbox next to the driveway attached to a fence post labeled "Amazon Packages". The valley opens up more here and you will see an airstream camper parked just across the creek. Park wherever you are comfortable in the garavel parking lot.
It's is generally easiest to take a left out of the driveway to the stop sign at the end of the road, then take a left on Lions Gap Road to the next stop sign. This is Chilhowie. You can find what you need there or explore further north or south. Taking a right gets you to town or take a left and follow signs to rt.81 if you just want to hop on route 81. The town of Marion is north on rt.81 and Abingdon is the next town south on 81. They are both about 15 minutes away and are small historic towns with a bit more going on than Chilhowie.

Hello! I've hosted my home and other spaces for years and stayed in many places. I love Airbnb! I'm currently developing Glamping, Treehouses, and Alternative Buildings on my 30 mountain acres in Southern Virginia. Come enjoy the land with me and see it evolving in real-time. :)
