Gil and Betty were born and raised in Miami, and their ancestors have a rich history in Miami and the Florida Keys, and at one time were pineapple farmers on Elliott Key. For many years, Betty, Gil, and their 4 kids camped in the North Carolina Mountains for summer vacations, and most often, they had 8 to 10 families from Northwest Baptist Church in North Miami come along as well. It was quite the caravan, and many wonderful memories for all! In 1973, Betty, Gil and their close friends, Ollie and Shirley Singleton purchased this 20-acre Farm from Claude and Vivian Thompson, who built the original house in 1935. Claude was a farmer and took his produce by horse and wagon to the nearby cities to sell. Claude never drove a car! In 1979 Gil and Betty moved from Miami to live fulltime in Saluda.
