The boutique upstairs suite of The Pink Cottage is cosy and tranquil with a traditional vintage interior that's just intriguing. Breath-taking sea views & a secluded Secret Garden to unwind in! The ideal rural getaway by the Causeway Coast. On a stunning headland walk to a lighthouse & Victorian town, Whitehead. Great if you want to visit The Gobbins (5mins) or explore the Causeway Coast. Or, if you simply want peace and quiet to relax & rejuvenate, it's perfect. Simple breakfast included. THE PINK COTTAGE UPSTAIRS SUITE It appears modest in size from the outside, however you’ll find your upstairs apartment is bigger than expected, extremely quiet and peaceful and very cosy. The Pink Cottage was built with traditional stone over 200 yrs ago and restored in 2021 to provide a hidden haven of tranquility. It has authentic little sash windows which provide a beautiful sea view from the living room. It has been lovingly converted to a sumptuous standard while being sympathetic to its era. Many pieces of furniture are original antiques with a long history and a story to tell (if they could) and a certain quality of workmanship. LIVING ROOM There’s a large living area with a little dining space should you want to prepare your own food. You'll find a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle along with utensils and chopping board. All this is so you can easily dine-in and heat food if you wish! All plates, bowls, glasses and wine and prosecco glasses are supplied. If you love good coffee there is ground coffee and a cafetiere. And for tea lovers there's a little selection, including loose leaf tea and an infuser teapot for the perfect brew! You'll find some lovely complimentary breakfast items waiting for you to enjoy. No need to remember to do a shop for basics before you get here! Here's what you'll find waiting for you: - Ground coffee for the cafetiere - Tea - loose leaf and bags - Local fresh milk - Luxury Muesli - Irish Organic Porridge Oats Sachets - Jams locally hand made - Local Butter The fridge is also perfect to chill beer, wine or Prosecco so you can relax and enjoy a glass of something in the evening...maybe even outdoors in the Secret Garden, weather permitting! There's a smart TV too, so you can catch-up on whatever you're watching on Netflix and the other channels. The living room also has a writing bureau, should you want to do some work, or send an old fashioned postcard! Oh, if you do, you can post it in the red letterbox just outside The Pink Cottage, daily collections! Wifi is good, should you really need to work. BEDROOM The bedroom has a very comfy luxurious king sized bed with a super quality memory foam mattress, supportive pillows and premium high thread count linens. The window has a discreet black-out blind should you want to banish the early morning light! BATHROOM The bathroom has been newly refurbished with a luxurious clawed feet roll-top traditional bath (shower in bath). The floor is a vintage design tile with the added luxury of underfloor heating to keep your toes toasty! And of course, the towels are white and fluffy. We also provide full length white cotton bath robes to wrap yourself in for that perfect spa feeling after you have soaked in the bath using the complimentary bath salts! THE SECRET GARDEN You also have private access to the Secret Garden which lies hidden at the bottom of our garden. It's sheltered and secluded with high hedges, looking over the sea...perfect to sit and read and listen to the birds... There's a chiminea for the cooler evenings and a bbq if the weather's good! I also supply you with some kindling, logs, tea lights, bbq coals, matches...all you need for a couple of evenings to keep warm in the garden while watching the sunset. The soft chair cushions are kept easily accessible in a storage container just beside the garden, so it's quick and easy to get comfy and enjoy the sea air. Bring a good book and if you're still sitting there after the afternoon sun fades, there's a couple of blankets if it gets chilly! And the best bit...no-one will know you're even there! ON ARRIVAL On arrival there is a narrow little staircase just inside the front door that brings you to your totally private accommodation. Please be mindful of your head going through the door at the top of the stairs...it was built hundreds of years ago when people were smaller! As the stairs are compact, it isn't suitable for children or pets. Parking is available to the front of the cottage near the white wall. We can provide safe overnight storage for bikes and golf clubs.
Well what can I say that hasn’t been mentioned by a fellow traveller from Belgium. Heather has created a little slice of heaven truly. The Secret Garden is just thee place in the fortunate spell of good weather we had to totally switch off. Whether calling your eyes to listen to the birdsong or watching the boats at sea or drinking a beer while the thoughtfully provided BBQ supplies takes care of the cooking and the Chimera again fully supplied begins to throw out the heat. Inside the fact that Heather is an interior designer shines through and there is so much attention to detail it’s hard to know what to mention . But fine linens, quality kitchenware (although it’s just for very simple meal prep) the beautiful cabinet which houses the most attractive tableware and the very cute 1/2 Belfast sink unit for cleaning up everything exudes class. Superb bathroom with heated floor and a welcome pack of bread, jam, milk and quality cereals I could go on but I’m almost out of letters lol
We had an amazing stay at The Pink Cottage, it had everything we needed and more. We were greeted on arrival with a bottle of Prosecco for my birthday, homemade cake and all the essentials for breakfast. Heather is a brilliant host and she has decorated the cottage in a beautifully quirky way. We loved our stay and it was only 5 minutes drive from The Gobbins coastal walk which we had booked to do on the Saturday morning. Not forgetting the secret garden which was magical with stunning views, we loved our stay.
Myself and my 8 year old daughter Daisy stayed at The Pink Cottage over half term break, we wanted a girlie night away and it was absolutely perfect! 🌸 the cottage was clean, cosy and full of lovely personal touches which made our stay so enjoyable! My daughter especially enjoyed the board games provided and the beautiful bath! Heather was extremely helpful with any questions we had and made sure our stay was perfect! We will be back again in the summer to enjoy the secret garden and the local walks as I know how beautiful the surrounding area is! ☺️ would recommend 100% for a cosy get away!
Magnifique cottage avec une décoration très soignée et un emplacement magique. Heather est très réactive et pleine de petites attentions.
The Pink Cottage is located near the end of McCrae's Brae, a mile long lane with which ends at Blackhead Lighthouse.
A short stroll along the lane is Whitehead Golf Club where Pink Cottage visitors are welcome to dine and enjoy a 10% discount if you mention you are a Pink Cottage guest!
From The Pink Cottage you can enjoy a bracing sea walk via Blackhead Lighthouse to the Victorian town of Whitehead...look out for seals, seabirds, pods of dolphin and porpoises and even the odd minke whale!
Start this walk by stepping out of The Pink Cottage front door and turn right!
The most dramatic part of the walk is around the base (sea level) of the headland, where the sea has created sea caves. Look out for The Wren's Eggs which are large glacial boulders left there 10,000 years ago!
The views from the walkway around Blackhead Llighthouse are stunning. You can see across the mouth of Belfast Lough to Bangor and Co Down, the Copeland Islands off Donaghadee, while inland, Scrabo Tower can be easily identified.
Scotland can be seen when visibility is clear. Closer at hand, the view inland down Belfast Lough takes in the whole village of Whitehead with its strikingly colourfully painted Victorian houses on the promenade...a must see.
WALKING
You can step directly on to the Blackhead Costal walk into Whitehead via the Golden Steps and there you can catch the train to Belfast or other parts of Northern Ireland. There is a regular service to Belfast, which takes around 30 mins (16 miles).
DRIVING
The A2 leaves Whitehead, runs along Carrickfergus Marine Highway and takes you to Belfast 17 miles and approx 35 mins.
Or, go north on the A2 where you can join the start of the scenic and dramatic Antrim Coast route leading to the Glens of Antrim, Rathlin Island via the Dark Hedges and the famous Giant's Causeway to name but a few must-see places.
There’s quite a lot to see along the Causeway Coastal Route which was voted the Number 1 Region in the World to visit by Lonely Planet in 2018.
CYCLING
We can safely store your bikes if you want to bring them and do some local routes. Cycling around Islandmagee is a lovely 18 mils round trip with stunning scenery. Most roads are reasonably quiet with some stretches being busier. We keep to the Gobbins road, taking in Port Muck, Brown's Bay and returning through Mill Bay and back to McCraes Brae. It is quite a hilly route!
Or you can go further afield depending on the type of terrain you enjoy.
