Haverigg · 整套乡村小屋 · 3室4床2.5卫 · 可住6人 · Roomy cottage with sunny garden on Cumbrian coast
Approached via a rough farm track and surrounded by farmer's fields, Tarn Head is a rural cottage with a contemporary, two storey extension, eco wood burning stove and a large, sunny garden on the edge of Haverigg Village - Cumbria's best kept secret. Of appeal to walkers, cyclists and nature lovers, it is only a 5 minute drive or cycle, or a 10 minute walk, into the village and then onto the coast with beautiful sandy beaches, sand dunes and fabulous views of the Lake District fells. This is a traditional Cumbrian farm cottage located in a small hamlet of six cottages on the edge of the village of Haverigg. The cottage has been enlarged with a contemporary, two-storey extension and an open plan kitchen and mezzanine, to create family-sized accommodation with different functional spaces suited to families, couples and groups of friends. The mezzanine has a light, airy space overlooking the dunes that can be used for relaxing or home working. The lounge has a newly installed, eco-friendly wood burning stove. There is a large, sunny, south-facing garden with well-stocked borders, a vegetable garden and a verandah with table and chairs. Please note that the cottage is accessed via a short, but rough farm track with large potholes that sometimes fill with rainwater. They can be safely navigated simply by driving slowly, but please take care. The location is particularly suited to people who like walking, cycling, birdwatching and the general outdoors. It is the family's second home and not a commercial let - which is reflected in the lower rental price. Nor is it a chocolate box cottage like you might get in the Cotwolds!. This is agricultural country with a working farm close by and livesotck grazing in the surrounding fields. We love it and think this is part of its charm but please bear this in mind if you are thinking of booking. There is free wifi and two smart TVs with internet-based streaming channels and platforms (log in needed for Netflix etc.). The cottage is undergoing a gradual upgrade and refurbishment as the difficulties of sourcing materials gradually ease, but there is work still to be done in the utility room for example.
Beautiful cottage and garden. Fields opposite with cows calves and sheep. Lovely to see. House quirky. interesting property and quiet bedrooms and surroundings. Garden full of trees, flowers and birds. Great assistance from neighbours. All amenities supplied for use if required. A great few days there and would revisit in the future.
Our stay at Rita’s place was lovely. It had all we needed for our stay. The garden is lovely and so much wildlife around. Birds in the day and bats on the evening was lovely to watch. The location is quiet and the neighbours are really friendly. As described the property isn’t pristine with cleanliness but this is all mentioned in the description before booking so we didn’t mind and knew what to expect. The bedding and towels all very clean. The location is about 15 minute walk up the beach with a great park for the kids on the front. We used the cottage to explore local beaches and the lakes. We would happily stay at Rita’s place again and think it’s great value for what you get.
Comfortable and roomy, great location and lovely garden. The property needs some TLC and wasn't as clean as i would expect it to be, however i mentioned this to the host and she immediately refunded the cleaning charge.
A very lovely weekend celebrating a special family birthday. The house and garden were lovely but the best part was walking on Haverigg beach.
Haverigg is a pretty seaside village in Western Cumbria with lovely coastal walks through the sand dunes and along the various beaches. It is very family-friendly and dog-friendly and quiet compared with the overcrowded honeypots of the Lake District. On Main Street, 5/10 minutes walk from the cottage, there is a Londis convenience store, post office, two pubs and a fish and chip shop. There is an honesty farm shop on North Lane - that runs parallel with Tarn Head Lane - that sells vegetables, bread, cheese, bacon and sausage, milk, together with locally produced preserves
The Harbour, on Main Street, has a beer garden and offers inexpensive, though fairly basic, pub food. Millom has a number of small family-run restaurants and several take aways. Hodbarrow nature reserve - with short or longer walks - is dog-friendly and flat. The Beach Cafe LA18 4ES, next to the children's adventure playground, also has an outside seating area.
Millom, 3 miles and a 10 minute drive away, and has a small Tesco, Co-op, pharmacies, bank machines, post office and lots of independent shops, together with take-aways and restaurants.
Broughton in Furness is a pretty market town a 15 minutes drive away. There are several pubs with decent pub food and independent shops for bread, pastries, vegetables, cheese and meat.
Silecroft, the next village along heading north up the coast, has a pretty shingle beach and fabulous sunsets towards the Isle of Mann. There are several pubs offering food.
Coniston is about 10 miles away and Ambleside/Lake Windermere about 20 miles. For those interested in walking, Black Combe is the nearest fell, about a 15 minute drive away. For the more adventurous, Wastwater and the Scafell range is about an hour's drive up the coast. Other places of interest within a 45 minute drive include the Duddon Valley, Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, the Roman Fort and Muncaster Castle.
