Elk Creek Ranch is located 9 mi N of Lake City , in a private valley. The quiet, serene landscape and rich history make it a unique peaceful vacation home. The home has 2 levels with two separate kitchens, wood stoves and bathrooms. The beds are comfortable, the hot water is abundant and the great room has a large kitchen table upstairs for wonderful family dinners . Plenty of parking. The ability to house large groups (x fee) or families gives this vacation home a festive family feel. The ranch is located 9 miles north of Lake City up a private, 1 mile long dirt road. ( 4 Wheel Dr. necessary when it is snowing). Little Elk Creek is accessible for fishing, although better fishing is about a 10 minute drive on the Lake Fork of the Gunnison. Big Blue Creek, the Alpine Road, is 1 mile away for ATV access. At the top of the meadow the forest service can be accessed and there are some hiking trails to explore all the wilderness your heart desires. Gunnison is about 45 minutes away, Crested Butte is about an hour and a half away. Blue Mesa reservoir is about 30 minutes away. It takes about 30 minutes to get up to the ranch from Lake City because it’s a Windee road and going through the gates on the property takes a little bit of time. The boiler system is run through the hot water heater so there is plenty of hot water for a big a family or lots of guest to take showers back to back. Having the two levels can be really nice for some privacy or for the ladies who enjoy having their own control of the kitchen. There is only one television so the kids could be watching a movie or TV upstairs while the folks can be playing cards or hanging out at the bar downstairs. There is no Internet access. It encourages the kids to stay off their phones and engage each other, I enjoy this feature.
