Loved staying with our large family at Jen’s place. Was a perfect experience. Really enjoyed the ride in the Duffy boat with Mike and he had great food recommendations. Will definitely be back:

Jan and Mike’s place was amazing and their responsiveness was top notch. Upon arrival, Mike and Jan greeted us and showed us around the property. Mike was fantastic in giving instructions and a safety lesson on kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. In addition, the Duffy boat ride he gave around the canals of Huntington Harbor was amazing. We went out multiple times during our trip either kayaking or stand up paddle boarding. It is a great area for beginners also because of the calm waters. Mike and Jan also gave great local recommendations on food and activities. Inside the house was amazing as well! We loved the layout of the house and the rooftop was especially awesome to watch sunset. This place was such a unique experience for us as a family and I would highly recommend it to anyone staying in the area. We will definitely like to stay here when we are back in LA!

Our family of 5 stayed for one week. Jan and Mike are incredibly responsive hosts who will do what they can to accommodate any request you have. Aside from the main bedroom which is a decent size, the 2 other sleeping areas are cramped. The 2 bunkbed loft leaves minimal space between the beds. The upper loft has 2 raised platform beds, a low ceiling and only enough room to pass by one to get to the other. For teens and 20-somethings, this was not ideal. Hosts graciously allowed us to use the floor-level apt as an extra bedroom. This was incredibly understanding as it was not ready to be used by guests. Beach towels are thin and small, beach chairs were camping chairs but once we asked about actual beach chairs we were provided with 4 within the hour. Format of reviewing dock rules should be tailored to the audience. Furniture in living room was worn, only space for 2 on couch so straight back chairs only other option. Suggest cozier seating in this area and tidying up of patio.

This house was an ideal getaway for our family. Close to the beach; unlimited access to kayaks and paddle boards; walking distance to our favorite craft brewery; and all the comforts and conveniences of being "home." Jan and Mike are the most hospitable hosts! They went out of their way to welcome and check in with us throughout our stay. Highly recommend staying at the Sandcastle!!
