自我介绍

We are a family of five living in this neighbourhood for over 60 years now, with our home being one of the first 'brick and mortar' constructions of the locality. We are well known among our neighbours to be kind and hospitable and enjoy a healthy reputation among the locals. We love to travel and host travellers as well as exchanging experiences and cultural ideas. The head of the family is my father Prabir, a brilliant mechanical engineer who passed out from IIT Kharagpur in the late sixties and then went to the UK for his higher studies. After working in various reputed industries in India and abroad, he started a manufacturing business of engineering products. Our workshop is in the ground floor of our house only. For anyone interested in engineering stuff, we can definitely engage in lively conversations and also give you a tour of our workshop. The person in charge of all matters regarding our home is my mother Jaba. Having passed out from Rabindranath Tagore’s Santiniketan, she has a unique understanding of life and is a window to our culture specially if seen through the lenses of Tagore’s songs, which are an intimate part of a Bengali’s life. She is a wonderful cook and would be more than happy to share a few tips on Indian/Bengali cooking. She also looks after the day to day affairs of our NGO, which was started by my grandfather about 70 years back. I am a production engineer from Pune University, a city which also happens to be my birthplace. Apart from being a full-time partner in our family business, I pursue various other engagements like reading (mostly management, technology, spirituality), music, salsa dancing, travelling, doing social work and engaging in deep conversations with people. An apprentice to managing the household is my wife Shrimoyee, a professor in History in a reputed College in Kolkata. If you are a history buff or simply interested to know the city you are visiting, she would be the go to person. This is more so because she did her doctoral thesis on early colonial Calcutta. Last but not the least, the youngest and the most important member of our family is my daughter Averi (pet name Anandi). All of 5 years old she is a friendly child who loves to interact with people and enjoys a good company.
