A beautiful house in a lovely location, well situated and in close proximity to Rye and Hastings. Very stylish and well equipped. Clemmi was extremely helpful and very efficient in dealing with a couple of queries I had when we first arrived. I would highly recommend the property to anyone. We didn’t want to leave!
We stayed at Clemmi’s as part of our wedding celebrations. The barn is absolutely gorgeous. Exceptionally stylish yet cosy and practical. The kitchen has the wow factor and is superbly equipped. The bedrooms were perfect for three couples and the master suite is simply sublime. The grounds are stunning and the outside areas are such a highlight. We loved having a drink around the fire pit and stargazing. Clemmi communicated perfectly and left clear instructions as to the functionality of the house. (I can only assume that previous reviewers who encountered issues had not taken the time to read them!) The hot tub is a wonderful touch although we chose not to use on this occasion due to the wedding tans!!! Clemmi was kind enough to install a full length mirror at our request and took time to respond to all our pre-wedding jitter queries! Can’t wait to come back for our anniversary. This place is a keeper!
Six of us (all women) stayed at the Cloth Barn just after New Year. Clemmi, the host, was very helpful ahead of our stay and responded promptly to queries. This property is in a fantastic location. Smarden is lovely and has two decent pubs just a few hundred yards from the property. The property definitely has the “wow factor” when you arrive. It’s completely open plan, with floor to ceiling glass to a lot of it. Despite this it has a cosy feel, especially when the log burner is going. It is furnished well and decorated beautifully. There are lots of quirky touches that make it stand out from the rest. Fittings and linens are excellent quality and the beds are super comfy. There were a few niggles during our stay but we are assured these are being looked into. Once resolved I’m sure future guests will find their stays just perfect. Clemmi was very responsive when contacted and genuinely seems to care that all her guests have a great time.
Smarden is a small picturesque village, often called the 'loveliest village in Kent' and after a visit, you'll know why as it is a beautiful Kentish weavers' village with around 200 buildings of architectural and historical note. You'll find three pubs within walking distance, a butchers, a vintage shop and an art gallery. 3.5 miles away is the town of Headcorn where larger shops and a mainline train station can be found.
Close by guests can explore Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens, Leeds Castle and Bodiam Castle. There is a golf club close by at Chart Hills and fishing lakes at Cackle Hill. Historic Rye is 19 miles away, Camber Sands is just a few miles further along the coast.
The Kent and East Sussex Railway is in Tenterden, which is known as the Jewel in the Weald locally, with lots of independent shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. There are vineyard tours and tastings at Chapel Down in Small Hythe, near Tenterden and Hush Heath Winery in Staplehurst.
There is free parking for two cars inside the gated grounds, close to the Barn, with plenty of on street parking locally for any additional cars. The village has a bus service and the nearest train station is in Headcorn, which is 3.5 miles away.
