The 13th arrondissement is a quite large residential neighbourhood in Paris and it is very quiet and not part of the traditional tourist routes, but it is any way rich in points of interests and attractions. Not to be missed, particularly for architecture lovers, are the National Library François Mitterand and the whole Paris Rive Gauche district, an ambitious project designed by important architects such as Christian de Portzamparc and Norman Foster, including various buildings used as offices or France administration centers. The area also boasts the Manifacture des Gobelins, a gorgeous 17th Century structure built by Henry IV’s command for the manufacture of carpets and tapestries, and the Butte aux Cailles, a lovely hill once dominated by windmills and nowadays a residential area with villas, picturesque views and bar and restaurants, ideal to have some rest after a day downtown. On the Boulevard Blanqui, one of the most important food markets of the city is held on tuesdays, fridays and sundays. Public transport The closest metro stops are CAMPO FORMIO (line 5) or LES GOBELINS (line 7).
