The Nonchalant is just beautiful. We loved how much thought went into the design. The original artwork, the gorgeous wallpaper in the kitchen, the gate at the top of the stairs. We appreciated all the thoughtful touches that are never a guarantee in rentals. Side tables to set your drink, a throw in the living room, glassware of varying sizes. The bed is very comfortable and the linens are good quality. The shower is POWERFUL and the shampoo, etc is so nice we are going to order some. Thomas is very boutique and well-preserved. All the meals we had (but one) was very good and very surprising for a small town. We especially recommend (per Justin's recommendation) Ellender's (one of the best burgers I've had) and Ish in Davis. We loved visiting the nearby waterfalls (don't miss Douglass and Albert) and the coke ovens built into the hillside. Beautiful and fascinating. Would come back -- easy, gorgeous drive from DC.
Justin’s place was very cute and exactly as advertised. It was perfect for our quick over night stop through town to rest on the way to our final destination. Their bed was the most comfortable of anyplace we have stayed. I only wish we had arrived earlier on Sunday so we could have walked through more of the shops before they closed.
Amazing place, pictures don’t do this apartment any justice. The decor and furniture were done so well down to the small details. The entire place was clean and very well maintained. All amenities were as described and all functioned without fail. This is definitely one of the best airbnbs I have stayed in. The small town is very peaceful and the locals were very friendly and welcoming. Restaurants and shops are all walkable. Parking was never an issue and the entire area felt very safe. I highly recommend this property and Thomas, WV.
Justin’s place is unique which is something that I love when I’m vacationing. There were so many special touches including a blue tooth speaker which we especially enjoyed while soaking in sunbeams on the porch drinking wine and reading. The decorative touches are nice and a special sweet touch when we noticed that they were bought from local artisans. We will definitely stay here again when visiting Thomas.
We stayed here on an overnight to Blackwater Falls. What an incredible treat it was to stay at The Dandy, which Justin & Trevor so lovingly restored. We also loved the downtown area, especially TipTop. My only wish was that we were there on a weekend when more of the shops were open. I would highly recommend staying here!

I'm a spacemaker who leads a triangulating lifestyle with my partner Trevor. Depending on the project-at-hand, you'll find us in Thomas/WV, Terlingua/TX (near Big Bend National Park) or Houston - our new urban home base. The connection between Thomas and Terlingua is growing - both former mining mountain towns; one being in the Chihuahua desert next to Big Bend National Park and the other a temperate rainforest, surrounded by the Monongahela National Forest. These two extremes make for deep appreciation for water and resourcefulness and play a big part of my focus on creating small, efficient, off-grid living spaces. But more so, we love these two places for the community that makes them. I settled into this way of living in 2015, after leaving Austin, TX to start and explore small town community life and reengage in the beauty of the Appalachians, the desert and mountain life. Since then, we've opted to roll a bit of urban living back into the mix, and have folded Houston, TX into our life -- a surprisingly incredible and under-the-radar City. I do this with my partner, Trevor. We have 40 acres of desert-scape near Big Bend, our three-story mixed use commercial building on Front Street in Thomas and a small cottage in Houston with our Airstream tucked in the back. Over the past eight years, we've been working hard to bring these places/spaces back to life through earth building, off-grid technologies, renovations and restorations. The spaces we share on Airbnb are examples of how we live; creative and efficient, yet without stripping ourselves from some of the splurges that make all the hard work of a self-built space, worth it.
