Great Missenden is a buzzy little village, with a direct train 45 mins from London Marleybone. Its the perfect county retreat, without being in the middle of no-where...the Metropolitan starts in Amersham, which is direct to Algate, and is only 15 mins away. The village itself has plenty of pubs, restaurants (Fan Fan is our favourite) and little shops full of stuff you never thought you needed.....and of course the world famous Roald Dahl Museum which is must see for young or old fiction fan!
Missenden Abbey has been voted Hitched magazine Wedding Venue of 2022, and residents of the road where Casa Papa sits, often enjoy the wedding bands and fireworks provided by the venue. Its that close! On a clear Sunday evening, you can quite often see hot air balloons taking a trip over the Chilterns.
The house is situated in a quiet, friendly family street. There is a playing field at the top of the cul-de-sac, which the local kids play football in, or ride their bikes or scoot in the road.

Walking to Great Missenden takes around 40 minutes at a leisurely stroll. Kids and a few beers tends to slow things down, but depending on your pace and the route, it can be as quick as 25-30 mins! Both the Nags Head Pub and the Full Moon Pub are 15 mins walk away (again depends on your pace) and other local amenities, such as the Peterly Manner Farm our local farm shop, Co-op, Sainsbury’s, etc are only a few minutes drive away. (there is a large Tescos in Amersham if you need a bigger shop)
There is a train station in Great Missenden where trains into London Marylebone take 45 min or Amersham is a 15 min drive where you can catch the Met Line.
Amersham is a beautiful old market town, with plenty of great pubs, bars and restaurants - we'd recommend a visit if time allows, Beaconsfield is also not too far away! We love the cocktails at the Crazy Bear!
The other way Wendover is another example of a beautiful little village, with fantastic walks, shopping and places to eat! Rumseys Chocolate shop where everything is freshly made is a family favourite. Car nuts may also enjoy the Aston Hill plack, where Mr Martin use to drive his motor car in the early 1900s.
Further afield, Marlow, Henley, Berkhamsted are all 30-40 mins drive.
Through the summer Penn Festival, Cop Hill Climb and various Regatta's make this a very social and fun place to spend time!
For kids, there are plenty of activities - Wendover Woods, Whipshead Zoo, Roald Darl Museum, Go Ape the list goes on! Please ask us for recommendation is any are needed!
There are various local taxi companies willing to do short drops with a bit of notice and who are very reliable. Although Uber has been know to work on the odd occasion, it's rare and can’t be relied upon.
It is the country, so Just Eat and Uber options are limited - but there are huge number of great options locally Check out our guide for recommendations.
