great place. Henry, the host, doesn't sleep! he's always there to attend your needs.
Rustic.
Lovely, spacious property with beautiful gardens, pool, grill area, games, and hammocks. There are multiple room options available, so check out all of the host’s listings. Especially great for groups or multiple families. Beautiful handmade touches in the house, fresh flower arrangements, great attention to detail. Henry was very attentive to our group’s needs, and he is a great communicator. Breakfast was wonderful - coffee, juice, fruit, bread, jam, and eggs. The internet connection was spotty, but no need for it… lots to explore in Mindo! Henry is an expert in all the tourist options in the area, and can help you plan your time. Truly a 2 minute walk to the park/city center. Bring bug spray… true for anywhere in Mindo.
There are some lovely things about this place (breakfasts are delicious, house is very cute, grounds are beautiful, help from Henry arranging activities was much appreciated and very kind) but there are also some things that could be improved for future guests. Guests should know that they can only get to this house, known as the Casa de Madera, by walking over 200 steps through muddy grass and rock paths from the main check-in / restaurant building at Casa de Piedra (where the parking is on the side of the street) which includes waking over 2 bridges over small streams (very cute but also basically a short hike) through slippery and muddy terrain because of the frequent rains in Mindo. Something to keep in mind for any guests with mobility issues, the elderly, and kids (and we had all of these in our family group). The house did not have a supply of drinking water, cups, plates or utensils. Although it has a fridge, the house does not have its own kitchen, although a common BBQ and stove area is nearby and can be used. There was also no garbage container other than the small bins in the bathrooms. For a house that can sleep 12 people, the lack of some of these basic things made logistics difficult. A key to the space that one is renting is also a basic right of anyone, yet we had to convince our hosts at check-in that we indeed wanted a key to the house (which they initially did not want to provide us, becuase they had not yet had time to make a copy, after saying that the last family to stay there had unfortunately taken the key with them, and tried to convince us that locking the door was unnecessary because of how safe the area was). While we indeed found it safe --- especially because of how remote and literally off the beaten path the house is!!! --- a key is a basic item that should be provided at check-in, without having to beg / fanangle / convince one's host that it is indeed desired or necessary. My family made some lovely memories staying here, but some of our adventures also came from having to make do navigating these logistics! And while we found that Henry was incredibly helpful, unfortunately when he was not there, the level of attention of other staff members at Casa de Piedra was not the same. Including staff not using masks in enclosed areas of the Casa de Piedra restaurant complex when we were checking in (despite being in the middle of a national / global spike in COVID-19 cases). All in all, Mindo is a lovely place to visit, and the Casa de Piedra complex is also lovely. But potential guests should keep in mind the things noted here --- and the owners / operators of Casa de Piedra should as well --- as with a few changes some of these things could be addressed and improved for future guests.

I provide additional cleaning supplies so you can clean during your stay. I comply with local laws, including additional safety or cleaning regulations. As the Ecuadorian government dictates, taking the temperature, a minimum distance of 2 meters, the use of masks, the constant use of antiseptic gel & alcohol, disinfecting footwear and avoiding crowds are mandatory.
