Tucked at the end of a private road, The Mod Retreat is the perfect balance of nature, small shops and lively restaurants. Located in the heart of the village, enjoy browsing the small shops, visiting local farmer’s markets or get back to nature hiking the many beautiful trails at nearby Minnewaska State Park. Relax in the spacious sun room or enjoy a nighttime fire around the fire pit under a starlit sky. Cozy up with a book with the sounds of songbirds and running water nearby. Built in the 1940's, The Mod Retreat has a renovated kitchen and master bath while still holding onto its original mid-century charm. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and spacious king bed. The sunroom was just added and has a new wood-burning stove to enjoy on chilly days or nights. There are no TVs in the bedrooms. All doors and windows in the home are original and the windows do not open.

We had connected relatively late at night for assistance with getting in to the house and our host was very responsive.

OMG what a fantastic cozy, snuggly warm bed in the master bedroom. I got some of the best sleep of my life during this stay. Karen's place is exactly what I needed. Plenty of space, lots of gadgets in the kitchen, clean, easy to get to via Maps, super easy checkin. This place also has a garage to park while it's snowing. Karen herself is amazing. She noticed me trying to access to electric door lock a few hours early, and she contacted me to open it up. She brought over a snow shovel and then SHOVELED THE DRIVEWAY for me!. She was very responsive to every question I had, and she was very pleasant to work with. I would 100% stay here again next time I am in Ellenville.

Quiet neighborhood with only one other home on the road. The sound of running water is from nearby Beer Kill Creek. Less than a mile away is Ellenville's quaint but growing restaurant row on Canal Street, which also has small shops to browse for local goods. There is also the Shadowland Theater, a renovated art deco theater showing professional productions of contemporary plays & musicals.
