Your home away from home on the island of Lazarus, with easy beach access and comfortable accommodations including a queen-sized bed, and a sofa bed that can sleep 2-3 adults OR 2 adults and 2 children and children under the age of 12. Split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cutlery, microwave and excellent bathroom facilities are all included. The bathroom follows ecologically sustainable principles, including flush toilets that use natural resources and water-saving processes, a hand basin, and a shower (electric heated for hot showers) for your use. IMPORTANT NOTE: As this is an island, there will be other guests on the property staying in chalets, glamping tents, and other tiny houses next to you.
Lazarus Island, also known as Pulau Sakijang Pelepah, which means "island of barking deer and palm trees" in Malay, is named after the island`s wildlife, which is believed to have been a deer barking in the area.
However, because the name was difficult to pronounce, the colonial governor changed it to Lazarus, which was once home to the Orang Laut community and a safe haven for pirates roaming the island.
In the late 19th century, between 1902 and 1914, records show that a fire broke out and wiped out abandoned isolation facilities, detention warehouses, and vegetation on the island.
Today, only a few desolate buildings from that dark past remain, hidden behind pristine beaches, artificial coastlines, and regrown vegetation that has reclaimed the land, creating a beautiful island retreat for mainland Singaporeans looking to escape the city.
