WEST KIRBY is a thriving, little seaside town with much to offer those interested in water sports, golf, walking, bird watching, or simply getting away for a coastal break. The flat itself overlooks the Marine Lake with all the water sports that has to offer and it's just 1.6 miles from the famous Royal Liverpool Golf Course. It's also right by the shops and a good choice of popular bars and restaurants. West Kirby is home to a lovely park with free tennis courts and it's the advised location for walking out to Hilbre Island across the sands.

GOLF -
Wirral is a popular choice for sports-lovers of all kinds but it has a long-standing reputation for golf. It boasts 14 private and municipal golf courses, including the world famous Links course at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake which has already hosted The Open Championship 12 times and is preparing for it's 13th, The 151st Open, from 16-23 July 2023.
WATER & BEACH SPORTS -
For lovers of water sports you can try out sailing, canoeing, paddleboarding and windsurfing from The Sailing Centre at West Kirby Marine Lake. If you're feeling hardy, go online for the latest details and book an early-morning, open water swim here. Alternatively, watch them from the warmth of the flat with a warm cup of tea!
The Marine Lake is also home to West Kirby Sailing Club who has hosted some well-known competitions including the Wilson Cup.
Round the corner of the Peninsular on Hoylake Beach you'll find Wirral Sand Yacht Club. This is the North West's premier location for Land Yachting and Kite Buggying and in 2017 the European Sand Yacht Championships were hosted here.
WALKING, CYCLING & WILDLIFE -
Ramblers will be stuck for choice with a range of coastal, woodland and rural walks including the popular Wirral Country Park which features a 12-mile footpath along a former railway line, dismantled in the 1950's, with some fabulous views over the Dee Estuary and its migratory birds. One end of the route starts in West Kirby, just a short distance from the flat. This traffic-free route is also popular with cyclists whilst "The National Cycle Network Route 56" runs right through Wirral, taking in Seacombe, New Brighton, Liverpool Bay and many attractive villages.
Bird lovers can visit RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands and the more adventurous can walk out to Hilbre Island Bird Observatory. In summer you will often see Grey Seals swimming off the end of the island; they come ashore as people leave and the tide comes in. (Please be sure to check tide times and only follow the advised route to and from the Island.)
HORSE-RIDING -
Much of The Wirral Way has a parallel sand track for horse riders whilst a host of other bridle paths and sections of the beach are popular with riders. With 11 horse riding schools and stables to pick from on the Wirral there are plenty of places to bring your own horse or book an experience for a day out.
SHOPPING -
Wirral is full of small towns and villages where you'll find interesting, independent shops to visit but if you're looking for some serious retail therapy, in addition to the large shopping centres in Liverpool and Chester, the designer outlet, Cheshire Oaks, is just 20 miles away where you'll find plenty of bargains, places to eat and leisure entertainment.
CULTURE and LANDMARK TOURIST ATTRACTIONS -
Other popular attractions by car include Port Sunlight and the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Chester Zoo, Blue Planet Acquarium, Ellesmere Port Boat Museum and the seaside town of New Brighton with its small fun fair and fabulous mini-golf. Meanwhile Liverpool, steeped in maritime history and home to the Beatles, offers a rich variety of famous art galleries and museums. New Brighton, Chester and Liverpool all have busy theatres and of course the latter is also home to the famous Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

PARKING - The flat comes with it's own private garage at the back or, for greater ease, there's private, off-road parking immediately in front of the garage. There's also free, on-road parking along the promenade and surrounding roads but this can get busy at peak times.
CAR - West Kirby is just 3.9 miles from Junction 2 of the M53 with fast access to Liverpool and Chester.
TRAIN - West Kirby train station is 0.6 miles from the flat, so roughly a 10 minute walk and without hills. It sits at the end of the Wirral Line and there's a frequent service of direct trains to Liverpool which takes up to 36 minutes. Chester can also be reached from West Kirby by train but this will require 1 change.
BUS - Also 0.6 miles from the flat are bus stops with services around the Wirral, to Liverpool and to Chester. You'll find these outside and opposite the Concourse Leisure Centre, near the train station.
AIRPORTS - West Kirby is a 50 minute drive (39.7 miles) from Liverpool John Lennon Airport and a 52 minute drive (47.9 miles) from Manchester Airport.
SHOPS BY FOOT & CAR - The flat is right by a number of local shops including a butchers, green grocers, bakers and fishmongers. It is also 0.5 miles from Morrisons with free parking.
BEACHES BY FOOT & CAR - The flat is right on the promenade with easy access, just a short walk along, to West Kirby beach & the Marine Lake.
It's roughly a mile from Red Rocks Beach & Nature Reserve with free on-road parking, although this gets busy in the summer.
Just round the corner of the Pensinula, Hoylake beach has plenty of free parking on it's long promenade that stretches down to Meols beach.
Heading in the opposite direction, the flat is also a 10 minute drive from Thurstaston Beach & Country Park, (roughly an hour by foot but a very pleasant walk along the sand or Wirral Way), and 8 minutes by car or a 30 minute walk on the same route to Caldy Beach & Golf Club. There is pay & display parking available at both beaches.
