Welcome to our elegant & enchanting Georgian house (1803) just 100m from the beach with many shops, cafes, restaurants nearby. Owned by an artist, it's decorated with eclectic style. The book-lined room is large & overlooks our private, walled garden so very quiet and super comfortable. Private bathroom with shower/toilet/basin (not ensuite). Pure cotton sheets & goosedown duvet. Tea & coffee making facilities. Mini fridge. Regular buses to the city centre, a 20-minute ride. License EH-70823-F The room has a double sofa bed so children are welcome as part of a family (for a small additional charge of £25 (one off, payable to me on arrival) to cover additional bedding and laundry of this. NB two guests booking our space but wanting separate beds - i.e. both the double bed AND the sofa bed made up (for example two guests, travelling together but not sharing the double bed) - will need to pay a £25 fee (one off, payable to me on arrival) to cover extra bedding and laundry of this. The bathroom is across the hallway from the room (not en-suite). You are staying in our private house; we will be home at all times for advice and help. The room has tea and coffee making facilities and a mini bar fridge (but no cooking or sink). There is a table and chairs outside to sit and have a coffee on a sunny day. The room is at the back of the house looking into the garden so is quiet and has full shutters and curtains.

Wonderful spot for a vacation in Portobello or Edinburgh - not far to beach, cafés, restaurants and public transportation. Great hosts :-)

Giselle's is home away from home at Portobello.Giselle instinctively knows when you need her and appears to offer help on restaurants, sightseeing options and travel alternatives. All of which worked brilliantly for us. She guided us through options much before we checked in and all her suggestions were on target. What warms the heart lies in small details, an impeccably clean and comfy room thoughtfully filled with different flavours of locally procured tea, wafers, chocolates and extra towels in the bathroom er al. Location wise it's a 30 minute ride away from the city centre and well connected. The sea is a short walk and a pretty cafe and a pub/diner on the promonade makes it easy for a quick visit. A big bonus are the interesting conversations with the hosts. They are widely read and well travelled. Talks on history to current affairs with anything in between thrown in is both engaging and a delight! Do go, if a homely feel with hosts caring for your comfort is what you'd like.

We really enjoyed staying at Giselle's place. The room was large, very comfortable - especially the bed. Lovely gestures such as drinks and snacks available, particularly enjoyed the gluten free beer! Gorgeous artwork throughout the house and postcards to take away were another lovely touch. The area was great, beach, restaurants and bars all within walking distance and Edinburgh city centre just a short bus ride away. Communication with Giselle was excellent throughout.

Ons verblijf bij Giselle was erg fijn. Ze was heel vriendelijk en legde ons bij aankomst alles uit wat we moesten weten. Erg propere badkamer en leefruimte. Gezellige en huiselijke sfeer. Mooie ligging van de airbnb ook! Bedankt hiervoor Giselle ☺️

Had a lovely time at this airbnb. The location is perfect just 20 mins away from the city via bus with excellent connectivity. Also you can walk upto the beach in 2 mins. Our room was super comfortable with a clean private bathroom. Giselle & her husband were great hosts very thoughtful about every little detail. Highly recommend this airbnb and would love to visit again on our visit to Edinburgh.

This is a wonderful part of the city; very popular with visitors because of the beach which is at the end of our street, just 100 metres walk. There are many cafes, restaurants and independent shops. Several supermarkets: the closest one is across the street from the house. You can enjoy walking along the promenade and can get ice creams, drinks and food (pizzas, crepes, fish and chips) to enjoy outside. It’s very lively; great people-watching and only 20 minutes from the city centre by regular bus service, every 5/6 minutes. It’s also easy to get out of the city by train or car from here.

Very regular bus service (number 26) into the city centre.
Getting here from the airport (takes around 1 hour)
Take the airport bus to the city centre (final stop). Then it is a short walk to the bus stop outside the Apple Store. Take the number 26 (any one) to Portobello Town Hall. Get off, turn first left and we are 100 metres on the right.
Alternatively if you prefer not to walk, or have heavy luggage, get off the airport bus at The Zoo (about six stops from the airport in towards the city centre), and simply transfer at the same stop to a number 26 bus.
Getting here from Waverley Station (takes around 25 minutes)
Take the escalators out of the station onto Princes Street. Cross the road to the bus stop outside the Apple Store. Take the number 26 (any one) to Portobello Town Hall. Get off, turn first left and we are 100 metres on the right.
Getting here by car
Use Sat Nav to EH15 1EZ
Parking is free, on street. The area can be busy but you can always stop outside the house to drop luggage before finding a parking spot a few minutes walk away.
By bike?
You can lock bikes inside the front garden or bring them inside the house.

We’ve lived in Portobello, at the seaside in Edinburgh for 17+ years. We’ve hosted many students over the years, now doing ABnB ourselves. We like to visit places with culture, history, markets, eating places - and we love to swim in the sea and walk/explore.
