For ladies, enjoy a stylish experience at this centrally-located quaint terraced house in historic West Quarter very close to town centre. Sunny afternoon aspect overlooking green spaces and trees. Fast secure fibre broadband. Guests share large ground flr kitchen & large bathroom 1st floor. Quiet cul-de-sac. No houses opposite. River quayside with night life 10 mins walk. Town shops 5 mins walk. St. Davids Station 12 mins. Central Station 7 mins. Bus station 20 mins. Its an old wooden floored character house, 1878, with winding stair case. Room is freshly decorated and off first floor landing area, next to large shared bathroom. Kitchen is simple 'rustic' styled with large oak table and comfortable Lloyd Loom chairs. Pleasant view in kitchen to small 'green' veritcally shrub planted yard. The ground floor room beneath this one may also have guests during your stay. Double glazed windows keep out most noise, and the road is quite a distance away. The river can be heard going over the weir at night when window open. Owner sleeps and works in the top two rooms of house, and uses kitchen briefly cooking one meal a day in afternoon. I endeavour to keep kitchen free for guests in evening.
Amelia is such a warm and a lovely lady. Very knowledgeable and personable. She looked after me as a house guest and made sure I reached the train station on time at the end of my visit. Thank you Amelia 😊
Had a lovely stay here for a term of university as a masters student. Lovely room, and Amelia was always happy to help and accommodate. Would recommend for a long stay!
House is in a Victorian terrace, conservation area in historic west quarter, but very close to centre of town. Area is peaceful, with many trees in adjacent park area. The house is in a cul-de-sac away from the road below. No houses opposite. Parking is private, but space is sometimes available on the pavement below my house.
Pleasant spots across the river by walking bridge for sitting in the sun and its very nice to walk through the park on the way to town. We are very close to open green fields by the river, for walking and sunbathing. It is not far from the Exe River Quayside and canal, where you can hire a cycle or a canoe, to follow the canal for 5 miles to the sea.
Very good pub and restaurant at bottom of my road, Mill on The Exe, has seating outside by river.
Evening entertainment - Phoenix Arts Centre in Gandy Street. Varied music and theatre days. Nice cafe-bar for lunch and evening drinks, with outside seating in good weather.
The Picture House, is a very comfortable cinema with cafe bar also; situated 2 minutes away in Bartholomnew Street West. Follow around west corner of city wall behind my house, from top of Barbican steps.
Sports centre Fitness First 2 mins from house, also Riverside Leisure Centre over the bridge.
The river is not navigable due to weirs, but there is a river path on the left from Quay for some distance. The canal path leads to Double Locks pub first, then further down to Turf Lock pub at the end of the canal where it meets the Exe estuary. There is a large green space and pub has food; very popular in summer.
The path continues along the estuary to Powderham Castle and grounds with deer park etc. Powderham can be accessed by bus. There is a rail station at Starcross, (where you can catch a ferry to Exmouth beach) or continue to Dawlish Warren which has fine beach and dunes with large bird nature reserve, also cafes in tourist part. Train continues to Dawlish, and Teignmouth, on way to Torquay or Plymouth; about an hour.
No. 4A bus goes between the Airport and St. Davids Station, approximately every 20 minutes.
Transport:
There are two train routes from London:
Trains between London Paddington - Exeter St. Davids - Penzance, 2.5 hrs.
St Davids Station is 12 mins walk to my house along Bonhay Road on level path.
Trains between London (south) Waterloo - Exeter Central. 3 hrs.
House is easy to walk to if you only have a rucksack or small trolley case.
If you have large luggage, Taxis outside station, also Apple Taxis next to grocery store near station.
Please note my address is NOT 'West Street' as some people have gone to...it is 'West View Terrace', accessible from Exe Street, or Barbican Steps, and just up hill from the Mill on The Exe Pub/Restaurant.
No room in house for a cycle, as I have electric bike in hallway.
There is no guaranteed parking. Cars park on the pavement beneath my house, on a first come, first served basis. During the day is more likely to be a space. By evening they will be taken. Cheap car parks are across the river in Okehampton Street. 10 mins walk, or in town 'Guildhall car park' also about 5 mins walk away.
Buses are available around the city, with closest bus stop being in Fore Street (access up Barbican Steps), and further up High Street. Buses to travel all over Devon are from Bus station in Paris Street, at the top of the High Street. The Tourist Office is near there. National Express has a stop there, and Heathrow coach departs bus station each morning around 09.00 am. Coaches also run from Stansted Airport north of London. Long jouney.
Trains to beaches:
5-10 mins walk from Exeter St. Davids to Dawlish Warren. Sand spit at end of Estuary, sand dunes and grasses with bird sanctuary and leisure beaches. (also closer station stop St. Thomas over Exe Bridges, but less frequent slow trains). About £5 return ticket.
7 mins walk to Exeter Central Station. Exmouth town and beach £4 return ticket. Half hourly intervals until late.
We are fairly well positioned with access to M5 motorway and Devon Expressway to Plymouth and Torquay being about 5-10 mins drive from my area, (depending on traffic, avoiding rush hours) signposted across Exe Bridges, through Marsh Barton Trading Estate and Alphington.
Book long distance travel train tickets online, which are often cheaper.
自我介绍
I am semi-retired working from home as self employed artist and designer specialising in murals and fashion. Ex Eng Lang Tutor. I enjoy gardening, Devon walks and water sports. I'm interested in current affairs and recycling. I'm always busy with something so don't have much time to chat unless I bump into you in the kitchen. The room to let is very suitable for those busy studying or working all day.
