We stayed 2 days and 1 night at the Pomelo Room. This is our honest review of the bad (needs improvement) and good: Bad (needs improvement): Before going to the countryside of Vietnam where almost nobody speaks English and you are very much the only tourist, we expected a bit more hospitality and the idea of having a “local friend”. However, it seemed that the host was more business minded and mostly trying to just promote services related to their own business. For example, we were offered a drink while waiting to get the key to our rooms, which was later charged to our bill at the end. I think we would have rather payed 2 dollars extra for the acommodation originally and then have some complimentary service when arriving. Additionally, did not seem to be very familiar with tours, excursions or food besides those offered by themselves. This makes the scheduling a little bit rigid and not easy to personalize according to taste and preference. By the way, don’t expect much for the floating tours. Slightly minor since we don’t have complete information here, but from what we could see, our room, although quite a lot more expensive than another room in the hotel did not really reflect this price difference. I was suggest to future guests to opt for the more basic version (king vs queen size bed seemed to be the difference). The host does mention in the overview that animal sounds could exist, however this is quite an understatement for sensitive sleepers since the chickens start making very loud noises at 5am in the morning. Although we do consider ourselves to have an above-average sense of direction, we did have some problems with finding the way when we went on a non-guided bicycle tour. We were told that it was very simple, and you just go basically in a circle, taking ferries to cross the rivers. However, we got very lost and found it quite difficult. Do not rely on google maps, expect to have wifi or be able to ask a local for guidance...this makes getting lost quite a stressful situation. We were told after, by the host, that google maps is not well updated in the region, showing roads that don’t actually exist, and vice versa. Wifi was another issue. The wifi in the lobby works well, however, it did not work in the room which can be frustrating. Lastly, prices are inflated for tours and food. Good: The rooms were very clean, with a comfortable and good bed, very charming bathrooms and necessities provided. The accommodation is as pretty and charming as the pictures actually show. The location of the rooms are also very convenient to get to, and situated in beautiful nature. The garden is beautiful, and the neighboring farms are also the natural pearls of Vietnam that you have traveled to see. We saw many different fruits and enjoyed the river as well. My boyfriend and I stayed two nights at the Durian Lodge and we were very pleased by the whole experience. The food is incredible, one of the best during our trip in Viet Nam. We booked directly at the hotel an authentic tour for the next day (floating market, pagoda, fish market, boat on Mekong, pop corn farm, colonial house, bicycle tour, lunch with the guide's family), ask for Vu as a guide he is a local from a nearby village and speaks a good English, plus he's really nice ! The room is great, the bed very comfortable and the open shower is lovely ! Would definitely recommend and stay there again if we went back !
