得梅因市 · 民居里的独立房间 · 1室0床1.0卫 · 可住2人 · Private wing in a historic Victorian
Private bed and bath in a historic Victorian home Clawfoot tub Queen sized bed Amenities include a coffee bar, microwave and mini fridge Optional shared kitchen 5 minutes from downtown Des Moines with its bustling nightlife, shopping district and many local restaurants Close to multiple parks and bike trails PLEASE NOTE - The space is on the second floor, as is traditional in most Victorian homes. I recently purchased this home and am in the midst of restoration. This home was originally part of a plot of 160 acres given to a well known reverend by the US government. If you love history, nostalgia and occasional spookiness, this home will not disappoint! Multiple tenants have reported sightings and sounds of paranormal activity during their stay... will you be the next? This home, originally called "The Oaks House" is on the national register of historic places and is within a national historic district. There are many unique homes in the area that are in various stages of restoration. Driving down the street is like going back in time. It's conveniently close to the heart of downtown and the Neal Smith bike trail. You will also be less than 5 minutes from the downtown farmer's market, local restaurants, the entertainment district and the interstate. Inside the home you'll likely be greeted by my Bernese Mountain dog, Jax and Frank, the host tabby cat. Jax loves to meet new people and may lean on you as a show of affection. Frank goes outside as he pleases, so it's no problem if he sneaks out the front door. He may also visit you in your room so if you prefer he doesn't, just let me know 😊 Please feel free to enjoy the wrap around porch in the mornings while you sip your coffee or tea. Also, if you stay on the weekend during the summer, I highly recommend you check out the local farmer's market on Saturdays. It runs May through October and it's not one to miss! A few tidbits: I do provide toiletries for short term stays. If you plan to stay longer than a few days, you may want to bring your own. Otherwise, I can provide extra at a small additional charge. There are locally handmade soaking salts for your use to indulge in the clawfoot tub. If you don't see them in the bathroom, please ask and I'll happily provide some to you! There is a pitcher of reverse osmosis water in the mini fridge from my personal supply. If you need a refill during your stay or even want to take some to go, let me know and I'm more than happy to accommodate! Guests are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare meals; I only ask that you clean up after you finish and leave it as you found it. Since I do live in this home with my children and dog, there is inevitably some noise in the morning. Because of this, I have provided a sound machine in the bedroom so please utilize that if you are at all concerned about being awakened by the sounds of littles in the morning. Parking: there is free street parking in front of the home. I'm excited to have you in my home because I believe a home is a sanctuary and my hope is that it can be that for you during your stay, as well. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. In care, Jessica
I had a great stay in Des Moines and will definitely stay here again next time I'm in town!
I had a great feeling about this place when I came across it, and it completely exceeded my expectations! I booked a last minute solo trip, and Jessica’s home was exactly what I was looking for. The location was great, the space was private and so comfortable! Bed was great and I just felt right at home almost immediately. I even had to work remotely in the evenings and everything really worked out perfectly! If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay in Des Moines in a very cool old house (such a unique experience!) I highly recommend Jessica’s place! She and her family are just the loveliest people and I plan on coming back to visit for sure!! Thank you Jessica!!
You are lucky if you get to spend time in Jessica’s little sanctuary. From the initial messaging to the end of my stay Jessica did a wonderful job of creating a welcoming energy. There was a storm coming so she suggested I come early for my safety. She is caring, considerate and she just gets it. I had some health needs and Jessica was super open to my flow and I felt mega comfortable. This wing is so cozy and I love that I could feel like I’m in my own little nest while also being able to be social if I wanted. Jessica is fantastic at reading the room and matching the needs of her guests. That bathtub. Ohhh I believe I bathed 3x in one day lol. So sweet. The energy Jessica has curated in her home is very special and I left feeling like family. Her kids put a big smile on my heart :). Will def stay again on my next cross country trip. Also want to mention as a female solo traveler this is the safe place to rest your head. Thank you!
A beautiful soul that owns a beautiful space, lots of good recommendations and also good insight. Is not against hanging out with you after hours and has a love for herbs. Her puppy is by far the most fluffiest and most pretty. A very good trip and the shower pressure is to die for.
Downtown and many attractions are a quick drive or bike ride away.
