Checked in on a holiday. The property was serene, private. The description says the home is updated, I disagree. The couches were slumped, sagging slipcover. But, the home was crystal clean and had ample extra bedding. It was too cold to use the deck and yard, but it was beautiful. I chose 4 stars because the heat was not on when we checked in, it was 30 degrees F outside. When I contacted the person on call, she said she would contact ppl who can help me turn the heat on, she did not know. (Thermostats on walls but no baseboard heaters, no vents). There was no evidence that heat was turned on, after turning it on, an hr later. Someone then text, told me that it's baseboard heat. I had to correct them, wrong property. Learned the heat was under the floor and it would take over an hour to heat the house. My Dad's 1st fl room never got heat all weekend. Portable heaters dropped off but did not heat the house at all. Very responsive staff, but wished house was heated before we arrived.
If quiet, peaceful surroundings is what you’re after then this is the place for you. Especially in the fall - beautiful colors! The interior is spacious and has all the essentials (minus a dishwasher). No cell service but the Wi-Fi was adequate. And did I say it was quiet? You could barely hear airplanes flying high overhead. One downside was that the couches were very saggy and could probably use an update. Other than that it was great settling in for a long weekend and doing creative work.
This place was exactly what we were hoping for. It was not far off of a main road, but very private. The property is such a nice setup if you’re looking for a remote getaway. The fire pit was great. The house being on stilts made for a perfect grilling setup. I spent most of my weekend in knee-deep water catching smallmouth bass as a bald eagle flew over. If outside activities are priority and you don’t need much indoors then this place is tough to beat. We plan to make it an annual(or more often) trip!
Very beautiful and quiet cabin on the Cacapon river! We enjoyed our stay, swimming in the river, and relaxing around the fire.
