Absolutely wonderful stay! Donna’s flat overlooks a stunning water view. The space has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Town is walkable with friendly people and cute shops. There’s a nice path along the water to walk on as well. Donna made the experience seamless and pleasant, and with great taste for a classy space. I’d love to stay again in the future!
Killyleagh (from Irish: Cill Ó Laoch, meaning 'church of the descendants of Laoch') is a village in Co. Down. It is on the A22 road between Belfast and Downpatrick, on the western side of Strangford Lough. Killyleagh is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and of environmental importance renowned for the rare flora and fauna of Strangford Lough and its surround.
The 12th century Killyleagh Castle is amongst one of the oldest inhabited castles in the country. Similar to Loire Valley châteaux, it was redesigned by Sir Charles Lanyon in the 19th century.
Visit the Sir Hans Sloane Visitor & Education Centre's small museum, science education area, gift shop, coffee shop and check if any exhibitions or art classes are running during your stay. Hans Sloane was a collector of immense standing and is credited with starting the Chelsea Physic garden, the British Museum and Natural History Museum.
Beyond Killyleagh, you can easily visit Delamont Country Park, Castle Ward, Downpatrick, Newcastle, The Mourne Mountains, The Ards Peninsula, Belfast and try water sports on Strangford Lough.
A car is advised, but Killyleagh has a regular bus service to Downpatrick and Belfast.
