The cottage has a quiet in-town location walkable to all locations in the village of Lubec proper; yet has an amazing view over Lubec Channel, framed by forests and cliffs by a Canadian and a U.S. park.
Our deck overlooks a large backyard bordering the Mowry Beach Preserve. Visit the beach from a boardwalk at the end of our street behind the school, where kids can also play in a large playground with a fisherman theme.
Easily walk into town passing the Bridge to Campobello Island, in Canada, where President Roosevelt summered with his wife Eleanor. Turn left at the bridge down Water Street to restaurants, coffee shops, gift and craft shops, a brew pub and tavern, and Saturday morning farmer's market.
Linger at the end of Water Street to see the tides change direction in Lubec Channel and attract seals, seabirds, and sometimes bald eagles feeding on fish. After dinner, stay for a nice view of the sunset over Johnson Bay and enjoy water and island views deep into Passamaquoddy Bay.
A grocery store is an easy walk from the cottage, as is the post office, local hardware store, and public library. After Memorial Day, eateries from fine restaurants/taverns to pizza/coffee/chocolate/gift shops are open, many into September.
Lubec and environs are ideal for nature lovers, hikers, kayakers, and photographers. Brochures and maps are available on state parks, wildlife refuges, public and private preserves open to public.

Lubec is so small, it doesn't have any stoplights! Most people walk around the town taking advantage of fine restaurants, brewpubs, coffee and gift shops, pizza and ice cream places. Several venues offer regional music and concerts. The town boasts special events such as the May birding festival, 4th of July, SummerKeys, and Labor Day with its famed Pirate Invasion from Eastport across the Passamaquoddy Bay. Bring your passport and, at Washington and Water streets, cross the international bridge to Canada's Campobello Island for a tour of Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt's summer home, which faces the entry to the Roosevelt Campobello International Park with coastal views and trails.
Other superb parks and preserves are only a short drive from our cottage, including Quoddy Head State Park--the easternmost point in the continental United States. Also explore nearby wild preserves owned by the Downeast Coastal Conservancy and Maine Coast Heritage Trust, as well as the recently organized Cobscook Trails, a unique network of private lands with public trails and facilities.
This extensive mix of reserves harbor unique boreal and other forests, wetlands, shorelands, and wildlife, from moose to migratory birds. It is a nature lover's delight, favored as well by hikers, bikers, kayakers, and photographers.
