King's Rd is the perfect Downtown St. John's location and is nestled in an awesome neighbourhood.
Bannerman Park is less than a 5 minute stroll away. It is home to The Loop in the winter - a free ice skating outdoor trail. Open in the months of July & August are a pool and splashpad. Bannerman Park is a wonderful place to spend a few hours with new play structures, monuments, large open spaces, walking trails, and a Visitor Services Building!
// For basic groceries, snack, and beer you have 2 close options: //
1. Halliday's Meat Market (3 minute walk) has your basic needs. Bread, butter, eggs, chips, beer, etc. They also have a little butcher shop in the back where you can get some yummy sausages and ground meat.
2. Needs Convenience (4 minute walk) is a larger store with more selection.
The closest chain grocery store is Dominion (PC brand). It is a 15 minute walk or 4 minute drive by car.
// Restaurants and bars //
King's Rd is a 15 minute walk (or 4 minute drive) to George Street, one of North America's Premier Entertainment districts. With over 2 dozen pubs, clubs, and bars packed within an easily walkable 2 blocks, it is a very popular place for visitors and locals alike! There is live music every night and most places are open until 3 am on weekends.
However, our immediate neighbourhood has some great spots to have a bite and sip as well! Here are a few:
+ The Parlour Gelato + Coffee (3 min walk): Delicious gelato, coffees, and baked goods.
+ The Postmaster's Bakery (4 min walk): Insanely delicious baked good. Be careful here!!
+ Bannerman Brewing (9 min walk): Delicious beers and amazing Thai fusion plates at night; coffee and baked goods during the day.
+ Pi Gourmet Eatery (4 min walk): Yummy thin crust pizza and craft brews.
+ Sun Sushi (5 min walk): My go-to place for delicious sushi.
+ Coffee Matters (8 mins walk): Great spot for good coffees, breakfast, and lunch.
// Sightseeing//
+ Harbourside Park (7 min walk) - Urban park featuring harbour & city views, informational boards on the area's history & dog statues.
+ Jellybean Row Houses (everywhere) - Just walking up and down the streets of St. John's is a sightseeing adventure in itself. So many colours and interesting houses!
+ Colonial Building (4 min walk): 19th-century neoclassical structure housing the local government & House of Assembly until 1959. Go on a free guided tour was knowledgable tour guides!
There are so many sightseeing opportunities in St. John's, such as Quidi Vidi Village, Signal Hill, and Cape Spear to name a few. But most of these locations are only reachable by transportation, unless you love long walks!

Our house has 1 visitors parking permit which can be used on King's Rd outside of the house. There is also a parking lot for Moo Moo's Convenience across the road. There are about 5 spots that are not permitted parking spots and can be used for the time being while Moo Moo's is closed and for sale.
There is a Bus Stop on the corner of Military Rd & King's Rd (1 min walk). Bus routes can be found on the Metro Bus website.
Although there is no Uber or Lyft in St. John's, there are lots of cab companies such as City Wide Taxi and Jiffy Cabs. It is a small city and a driver is never too far away.
