Saint Briavels · 整套民居 · 3室6床2.5卫 · 可住6人 · Converted stables and hayloft in former farmyard
You will have exclusive use of our spacious two bedroom cottage and our hayloft studio overlooking an historic former farmyard and 16th century farmhouse. The two properties are adjacent and have been sympathetically renovated to provide characterful and comfortable accommodation. This is excellent walking country with many walks straight from the door to woods, fields and streams. Puzzlewood, Clearwell caves and the Perrygrove Rail are all nearby. The pub and village shop are 2 minutes walk. Melanie and Christopher look forward to welcoming you to Church Farm. Church Farm is situated on a quiet lane and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The cottage overlooks the churchyard of St Mary's Church which goes back to Norman times and is close to the famous 12th Century castle and moat. The Hayloft studio has a double aspect across the garden. The properties have separate accesses and are situated on either side of the large barn. This provides a sheltered corridor between the two, as well as being a games room with indoor table tennis and table football, to enjoy on those (rare) occasions when the weather is too inclement to go exploring. The Stables cottage accommodation consists of a well equipped open plan kitchen- dining room with double aspect windows and original oak beams. The circular dining table can extend to seat six people if you have day guests. There is a downstairs cloakroom with sink and WC. The large lounge is through a glazed door and is comfortably furnished and has attractive exposed beams and a glazed wall onto the shared courtyard. An oak staircase leads upstairs where there is a large bedroom with king-sized bed and a cosy twin room. The bathroom has a full size bath with shower over. There is a separate WC. A door from the living room leads into the large shared games barn with table tennis and foosball. A door at the other end of the barn leads to the stairs up to the Hayloft. The Hayloft is a studio with a full size double bed, a comfortable seating area, a small dining corner, a good sized kitchen wall and an en-suite with toilet, basin and shower. There is a full size oven, a domino (two ring) hob, microwave, under-counter fridge with freezer compartment and a wall mounted smart TV. The barn is believed to be originally 18th century, but was substantially rebuilt in the 19th. The studio was created from the original hayloft using traditional materials as much as possible. The walls are of stone, insulated with fibreboard and sheepswool, the floor is oak, and the walls and ceiling are of lime plaster. This makes for a cosy space, adequately heated by radiators from a biomass boiler in the main house. There is a stable door that opens out onto a small south facing balcony at the top of the stone steps. Guests are welcome to sit in the shared sunny courtyard and to access the extensive wooded gardens for exploring and dog walking. Off road parking for 1 car is available adjacent to the Stables cottage; there is more space in the adjacent field. There is ample parking on the road outside which is wide and quiet. There is a public footpath running through the lower part of the garden, not visible from the cottage, which leads to a myriad of circular walks into the Wye Valley and the Severn Vale beyond. Bikes and canoes can be stored in our locked garage and we have an outdoor tap for hosing down bikes and dogs.
Fascinating building. Clean, warm plus quality bedding. Eco-freindliness welcomed and supported by us guests.
We absolutely loved our stay at Church Farm. The accommodation in Hayloft and Stables was perfect for us as a couple with four young adult children. We loved being able to do such beautiful walks through bluebell woods and over undulating fields right from the front door (highly recommend the St Briavels parish circular). The village is a perfect location for visiting the local area. Chris and Mel were really helpful and friendly and we particularly appreciated the freshly baked scones and cream tea on or arrival. Everything was done to a high standard and they had thought of everything. We’d love to come back another day. Oh and the table tennis and table football were an added bonus for the “kids”! Thank you both for a really lovely stay.
We absolutely loved our stay at Chris and Mel's place. The communication from the hosts before, during and after our stay was exemplary. They went out of their way to make sure we had all the amenities we needed for our children and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and safety. There was an issue with the hot water whilst we were there and Chris came and sorted it out immediately. The place was pristine and much bigger than it looked from the pictures! Would definitely recommend.
lovely accomodation in a quiet area, local walks and lovely pub 2 minutes away. we enjoyed our stay. thanks Chris and Mel
We have the best of both worlds - we are within a two minute walk of The George pub which has good food and often hosts live music, and of the tiny village shop, The Pantry, which sells a large range of staples and local produce. The village also boasts a large recreation ground with well maintained playground (including zip wire!), outdoor gym, tennis court, table tennis and a cricket pitch. We have excellent walking country from the doorstep with dozens of footpaths to woods, fields and streams. Offa's Dyke Path, the Wye Valley Walk, Gloucestershire Way and Wysis Way are all within walking distance from the door.
Nearby attractions include Tintern Abbey, Puzzlewood, Clearwell caves, Go-Ape and the Perrygrove Rail, as well as historic railways and nature reserves. There are also ample opportunities for outdoor activities like kayaking, canoeing and paddle-boarding on the River Wye, and off-road cycling in the Forest.
Most visitors come by car, as public transport is limited, with only occasional buses to and from Gloucester and Chepstow. Lydney train station is six miles away. The area is popular with cyclists, but be aware that we are 200m uphill from the river Wye.
