You will simply love this neighborhood because it has a local vibe and many many many foodies restaurants and bars. It is just outside the mainstram crowded part of the city but yet very central and well served with the Metro B and B1 lines at one block from home, connecting you directly with the Colosseum and the main train stations in a few minutes ride.
This neighborhood, Ostiense, is a post industrial part of the city and hosts many lofts, restaurants, museums and graffiti Art. Many young people live here (the University is here), and we Romans choose it when we go out in the evening because it's just the best and most lively place for food and drink lovers. And no tourists around! So you will just mingle with the locals :-)
MAIN ATTRACTIONS:
- Centrale di Montemartini: a beautiful museum where ancient greek statues meet the machineries of a former power plant.
- Piramide Cestia: no need to go to Egypt because we do have a Pyramid in Roma! Dating back between the 12th and 18th century before Christ, the Emperor Caio Cestio built this pyramid to host his grave.
- Graffiti Art: this is a famous neighborhood in town because world renowned graffiti artists were invited to paint it's buildings and streets. Among them are Blu, Iena Cruz, Sam3, JB Rock, Iacurci, Zed1, Axel Void, Herbert Baglione and many more.
- The sea: no, Roma is not on the seaside but Ostia, its ancient port, is. From the train station at one block from home you can just jump on one of the many manay daily trains that will bring you directly to the beach or, even better, to the Ostia Antica archaeological side in 26 minutes...you will be amazed by this perfectly preserved Roman city and you will feel like Indiana Jones!
- Eataly: the biggest store of the world renouned food mecca is here in Roma and at one block from home! Go fill your bag with italian delicatessens to bring home and cook in the evenings of rainy mondays!
- Gazometro: you will wander what those big iron structures are? These are the old gasometers of the town and the biggest piece of industrial archaeology of its kind in Europe.
- Calatrava bridge: yes the famous archistar Santiago Calatrava designed the marvelous Settimia Spizzichino bridge. Architecture lovers can admire the scheleton of this gigantic dynosaur surmonting the train line.

FROM the city center - catch the Metro B or B1 at the Colosseo stop, direction Laurentina and get off at Piramide stop. It is only 2 stops.
Than exit the station and walk until Via Pellegrino Matteucci 102 (6 min walking).
TO the city center - catch the Metro B1 at Piramide stop, direction Jonio and get off at Colosseo stop (only 2 stops).
