Ulmarra (from an Aboriginal word meaning "bend in the river") is a gorgeous little river port village in the north of New South Wales. Full of colour with the rippling blue of the mighty Clarence River, the vibrant green of the endless riverbanks – and my oh my when the jacarandas bloom! The historic village has a good selection of quaint shops and cafes, plus a well-known pub, the Ulmarra Hotel, with a veranda boasting undoubtedly one of the best views to soak up with a cold beer in hand. The food at the Ulmarra Hotel is honestly some of the best pub grub you could hope for too! Built on sugar cane and cattle farming, Ulmarra is rich in history, with many sights and structures echoing classic Australiana. Its cultural heart beats on the main drag with art galleries, second-hand stores, and heritage walks. The riverside culture complements fans of water sports and outdoor activities. With no local hire for equipment, we recommend you BYO fishing gear, kayaks and the like.
This area is great for either a short or long-term stay, offering peace and quiet but plenty of familiar amenities and conveniences are accessible enough for you to settle into a homely rhythm.

Our Gymea property is easy to access – just a short drive once you’ve slipped off the Pacific Highway. There’s plenty of parking at the property and getting around by foot is very easy and car is the best major mode of transport. We always recommend using a map on your phone/car GPS as unfamiliar regional roads can be difficult to navigate at times, but all in all it is very straight-forward and well-signed to access main highways and the surrounding towns and villages. From Gymea you can feel like you're in the middle of nowhere it's so peaceful and yet it's just a quick walk to shops, cafes, and the pub.
15 minutes to the nearest large town of Grafton, 30 minutes to beaches (we love Minnie Water and Diggers Camp), 1 hour to Coffs Harbour, 1.5 hours to Byron Bay and Ballina Byron Gateway airport and 2.5 hours to the Gold Coast. Other suburbs of interest include Yamba, Maclean, Brooms Head, The Sandon, Glenugie, and Wooli - all within 40 minutes of Ulmarra. Parking rates and/or time limits apply on the main roads throughout many of these suburbs, look for signs.
