Loweswater is perhaps the most beautiful lake of the Lake District - near to both Crummock Water and Buttermere.
The Lake is managed by the National Trust and Holne Wood is easily accessible.
The nearest pub is the highly regarded Kirkstle Inn, located on the south end of Loweswater. The pub offers Jennings beer and provides good food at lunches and in the evening. Bookings for meals is advised.
Local Shops and Facilities - Cockermouth is 7 miles away and has a range independent shops and eateries. It also has several supermarkets including Sainsbury’s on Station Road which also has a large pay and display car park. There is also a Co-op on Station Street and an Aldi on Low Road. Sainsbury's have made deliveries to Jenkinson Place if you wish to arrange this and there is a small village store in Lorton.
The nearest petrol station is just off the Cockermouth roundabout on the A5086.
Keswick and Derwent Water are 12 miles away and there are stunning walks
- several of which start from the property.
Two of the most popular are:
• Burnbank fell to the shores of Loweswater short loop (1.5 to 2 hrs).
Set off down the drive until you reach the footpath heading south up Burnbank fell.
On the fell turn left to join the Corpse Road. Follow this enjoying the high views over Loweswater. After crossing a stream and then climbing up a slope take
the footpath to the left that heads steeply downhill into the woods lining Loweswater. On reaching the lake shore turn left to follow the footpath back to Jenkinson Place.
• Burnbank fell to the shores of Loweseswater long loop (3 to 4 hrs).
Set off down the drive until you reach the footpath heading south up Burnbank fell. On the fell turn left to join the Corpse Road. Follow this enjoying the high views over Loweswater. Follow the path until you descend into a valley running south west at the foot of Black Crag. If you wish, take a short detour down the valley to reach a small tarn that provides a nice picnic spot. Head downhill and north east through High Nook Farm until you reach Maggie’s Bridge.
While walking, look out for:
• the distinctive Cumbrian style gates. These were formed by drilling holes in upright stones through which wooden bars could be passed
• Carvings in the wood left by the fairies!
Nearby tourist spots include the Whinlatter and Honister and there is a great stretch of golden sand at St Bees Head just 13 miles away.

Jenkinson Place is in an idyllic Lake District location. There is little in the way of public transport options. There are beautiful walks from the doorstep -including to the renowned Kirkstile Inn - but a car is required to access the local shops and other facilities.
