The Old School House offers a newly refurbished accommodation in a warm and welcoming rural setting. The large yet cosy Victorian home has something for everyone! -Hot tub -Large Garden -Seven bedrooms -Country kitchen with AGA -Snug with wood burner -Comfy lounge with internet TV & board games - Pool Table - Remote Setting The perfect getaway for family and friends! The Old School House is a home large enough for a family or group to enjoy. With six bedrooms on the first floor and one on the ground floor (easy access) there’s plenty of space to spread out and enjoy a restful break! We have a mix of twin and double rooms as well as one family room sleeping four people and a little bunk bed room for the ‘La’al’ ones! Quality UK bed linen is provided for a great nights sleep. The kitchen has all that you may need for cooking on the warming AGA (perfect after a long walk in the Lakes) and we will leave you a little pack of tea and coffee to I enjoy when you arrive! The rustic barn style dining room is attached the the kitchen and provides trestles for up to 16 people for big family meals! High chair is provided so everyone can reach! The lounge has two huge sofas with kilim cushions, large TV, internet access and enough space for board games. A cosy snug provides the heart of the home with wood burning stove, perfect to curl up with a book for the evening. If you forgot your book, never fear! Help yourself to some novels or specialist books in the mini library next door. You can also enjoy a game of pool here on the huge pool table! There’s plenty of bathroom space with 2 en-suite bedrooms, a shared shower room and communal bathroom with roll top and shower! We don’t forget the hairier family members either! A medium dog bed and doggy welcome kit is also provided and dogs are very welcome. The garden has enough space to relax, with outdoor seating, BBQ and Hot tub! Sit back and relax in warmth of the hot tub enjoying the garden views or starry nights . Having been fully refurbished in 2023 we would love to welcome you to enjoy this wonderful home! We have worked tirelessly to refurbish the house with love and care. With a mix of quirky vintage and modern pieces, comfortable and stylish is our aim! With a local manager, privacy is assured but help is never far away when needed! We want your stay to be as special as possible!

A lovely place for our group get together with kids. Nice outdoor space and great access to the coast and Northern Lakes. Great bedrooms and living spaces for all.
We had the most amazing stay in the house for the weekend. It was a special family weekend and we are so grateful to Steven for allowing us to spend it there. It really felt like a home from home. It had everything we needed and it was just perfect and private. Local villages aren’t too far in the car and it’s a great area to access further afield walks. Would definitely recommend Steven’s place x
16 of us and 1 dog stayed here for 3 nights for a big family get together for a 50th wedding anniversary. Stephen was so helpful and responded to queries so quickly. access via keysafe was handy, house and grounds dog friendly, with enclosed garden and ample parking. There was lots of space, so felt like we weren't on top of each other. comfy beds and very clean throughout. The AGA in the kitchen took a little getting used to at first, but we soon mastered it! There's a handy user guide in the kitchen. The pool room and hot tub were a bonus and the views were just lovely! It is worth noting that there is a private annex attached to the house but the guests have no access to the main house. I would definitely recommend this house for big family get togethers.

The lovely old house stands alone by a crossroads in the middle of fields with long views over farmland to the sea. We were a family of eight adults and five children (ages one to seven). There was plenty of room and no pressure on bathroom, eating or parking facilities. Everyone loved the hot tub which we used several times a day! We had a BBQ one day and the children played in the garden afterwards. We had a beach day at Allonby, shopped in Keswick, visited Wordsworth's childhood home and garden in Cockermouth, went to Walby Farm Park and variously saw Carlisle Castle or walked by or paddled in Bassenthwaite Lake. We contacted Stevie on a couple of occasions and he was always cheerful and helpful. We were slightly late leaving but the cleaners ( who had arrived promptly!) were very kind and friendly. All in all a very happy and memorable holiday.

Ideally located in the rolling hills of North Cumbria you can access the Lake District in under 15 minutes! Easy access to the Northern Fells is on your doorstep and the popular lakes town of Cockermouth is within easy reach where you can find great coffee, quirky shops and fantastic fish and chips! Keswick, the centre of the Lake District, is about 25 minutes away.
Meanwhile in the other direction we have the beautiful Solway Coast ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ - often overlooked, the Solway offers a scenic adventure along coastal roads and atmospheric marshes, with nature reserves, fascinating local history and delicious ice cream!
Carlisle is a 30 minute drive with easy access to the M6 as well as train and bus routes.
We have private parking for guests for around 4 cars. A car is required to explore the area. We are not on a bus or train line directly although Wigton is our closest town and has both bus and train service to and from Carlisle.

I grew up in Cumbria on a sheep and dairy farm before moving to London for many years. After a year working with rescue monkeys in South Africa I returned to Cumbria to work as a youth worker. I have hosted airbnb guests on and off since 2017 in my previous home and am now starting a new chapter at The Old School House. Reviews before 2023 are from my previous property. I like to offer people special places to stay, for visitors who enjoy nature and the countryside and are looking to relax and get away from the stresses of life.
