Tzununá means "Land of Hummingbirds" in the local Mayan language. It is a valley with a village corresponding to Santa Cruz la Laguna, Sololá. Casa Colibrí is nestled in the lush scenery of mountains of this valley, with a majestic view of Lake Atitlán and its volcanoes. An ideal location to unplug and enjoy the beauty of the nature
 and mysticism of ancient Mayan culture.
Tzununá is a quaint town on Lake Atitlán that has yet to be overrun by tourists. Just a short boat ride away from the busier towns of Panajachel and San Pedro, here is where you can truly immerse yourself in nature and travel off the beaten path. Casa Colibrí is just a 10 minute walk from the shores of Lake Atitlán and neighboring San Marcos, which is renowned for its alternative community and spiritual classes, courses and events, plus an abundance of healers and practitioners, from massage to acupuncture, an esteemed Waldorf school and a second pioneering educational project.
The land itself alongside the valley, a small river flowing through the property adds the charm to Casa Colibrí. The sound of water flowing, and the beauty of the greenery sets up perfect places to sit and be present.
The villagers are very friendly and kind. The women walk around in their traditional hand-woven clothes, carrying wood on their backs, and slapping masa dough between their hands to create corn tortillas that will be prepared on a wood burning stove.
In Tzununá there are some small, local stores to buy local food or drinks. Sundays and Wednesday there is a local fruit and vegetable market in the upper part of Tzununá. In San Marcos, the next village (10 minutes with the TukTuk, or 5 min with the boat) you find health food stores, vegetables, fruits, cafes, restaurant. Well-stocked supermarkets you can find in Panajachel.
Also, you will find at walking distance inspiring projects nearby such as permacultural foundations, academies, herbal apothecaries and farms like Atitlán Organics to explore. In this relaxing village in the jungle rests a beautiful waterfall with the accompaniment of a small cave that makes meditation and chanting sessions wonderfully inviting.
Within a 5-15 minute walk up the road, you can find the following:

You can easily move around Tzununá and its neighboring towns by foot, boat or Tuk-tuk.
Arriving to Casa Colibrí:
Below are the options for getting to our place, however we DO NOT recommend to arrive the first time in Tzununá when it is dark/nighttime! There are no street lights and no street names and it is a bit tricky to find Casa Colibrí the first time. We will send you detailed directions after booking.
1. From Guatemala Airport / Antigua to Lake Atitlan with a shuttle to Panajachel (around 3 h). From Panajachel to Tzununa take a public boat (lancha)(around 30-40 min). Tzununa is one boat stop before San Marcos. From the public dock in Tzununa take a Tuktuk or walk (10 min.).
2. From Guatemala Airport + City + Antigua directly to Casa Colibrí, Tzununá - private transportation (+/- 4 hours).
3. You are / will be already around the Lake - public transportation
4. Arriving by car - through San Marcos la Laguna or in a 4x4 directly to Tzununá

In Tzununá, restaurants and stores close early. Therefore, we recommend bringing food for the first evening if you arrive after 6pm.
