Gilbert and I (Cassie) enjoyed hosting for a year out of our spare bedroom so much, that we had to figure out a way to continue after we had kids! Our first year of marriage in a San Francisco studio apartment inspired our affinity for smart uses of small spaces. Fast forward three years to two little girls, a year and a half of researching/planning and a year of building, our custom designed modern tiny house on wheels rolled into our backyard just for you. Hosting allows me the flexibility to mostly be home with our girls during the day and pursue my career as an opera singer. With a background in marketing and hospitality, this tiny house is a passion project of ours. We delight in making our guests feel welcome, at home, and cared for. Army veteran Gilbert works close by in HR and is working on launching his own product. While we don't live in a tiny house ourselves, our main house is intentionally small for a family of four. We are constantly battling the temptations of clutter, but enjoy intentionally making our home work for us. The Nest Phoenix Tiny House has been featured on numerous tiny house blogs and news mediums and inspired new designs all around the world. We are called "The Nest" for many reasons. We hope our guests feel cozy, surrounded by just the things that they need, but are able to gaze out the wall of windows and enjoy the outdoors, just like a bird perched in a nest. The Phoenix is also a symbol of rebirth. We hope guests feel at peace and wake up refreshed, ready to take on their day. Finally, through space saving solutions, DIY decor, and local art, we hope guests will be inspired to do a little "nesting" of their own upon returning home remembering Myquillyn Smith's message in her book, The Nesting Place: "it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful." This project has also been an incredible way to connect with other small business owners in the community, acting as a gallery of sorts for local makers and artists.
