Gostamos muito da estadia. A casa é muito bonita e rodeada de uma paisagem arrebatadora. O José foi sempre disponível e amável.

L'endroit est magnifique : le jardin avec ses citronniers, ses orangers... la vue sur le Douro et sa proximité.C'est un emplacement idéal pour être au calme et profiter de la nature environnante. Toutefois Resende et ses commerces sont très proches et la petite gare Hermida se trouve juste sur la rive opposée ( pratique pour accéder à Porto ! ). José est accueillant et prévenant. La maison est très spacieuse et atypique : c'est ce qui fait son charme ( des différences de niveau, peintures et photos à découvrir, livres et petits objets ...). N'hésitez à vous perdre au dessus de Resende en montant vers Gralheira, village de montagne avec un bon restaurant et des sentiers de randonnées ! Je conseille vivement la villa de José surtout lors de vacances entre amis ou en famille. Merci à José pour ces délicieuses vacances.

It’s hard to leave a review that does this place justice. The house is gorgeous - old, rambling, room after room full of character and history. So many highlights - the balcony, huge dining room with views over the Doura, well planted shady garden, big well stocked kitchen, lovely drive from Resende, private access to the river with pontoon to jump off. But best of all is the pool - big, deep, clean, sweeping views over the river. Perfect. José is a kind and responsive host, and he met us at the nearby petrol station to show us the way. The housekeeper Fernanda is a good cook and will make you a traditional meal on request (ask José for price pp). We had a completely blissful week here and want to come back. Thanks José for a truly memorable holiday.

Localização excelente para descanso com uma vista magnifica sobre o Douro. Zona exterior ajardinada muito bem cuidada com água de boa qualidade numa piscina de dimensões adequadas. Casa com boas condições para grupos grandes mas a necessitar de obras de manutenção. Proprietário muito simpático e sempre disponível para ajudar.

The good: Exterior The location next to Douro river is great, the gardens, the views, specially at the swimming pool, are simply amazing. There are also supermarkets nearby (10 min by car) and a gardener that takes care of the exterior. Ideal to read a book or just hang out by the pool. The bad: interior 1. Cleanliness: absolutely terrible! Dirt and dust on every surface, including bedrooms, spiderwebs and bugs everywhere. According to the housekeeper, the house had not been hoovered for months prior to our arrival (because the hoover was broken) and she was doing her best because she only had 3 hours to clean (without a hoover) such a big house, alone, without any extra help. This is a country house and we wouldn’t see any problem if there were some cobwebs here or there. However the problem is that the house was not properly cleaned for a very long time. After our complaint, the owner bought a hoover and our rooms were hoovered. The rest of the house remained dirty. 2. Beds: too short and noisy, not letting you rest and enjoy the vacation. The house has 5 bedrooms but all beds are old and short. We used 4 beds and although we are not tall (between 1,68 and 1,73m), we all had to sleep everyday with our feet outside of the bed. To make it worse, at the end of every bed there is a metallic bar, so your feet will have to be on top of it, which is very uncomfortable. Every time you turn the bed squeaks.The mattresses are good, but sleeping comfortably and quietly was a problem during our stay. 3. Old house/furniture/appliances and cluttered living-room The house is old and needs interior renovation and repairs. We know that the house had no renovation for decades. There are old and broken appliances in the kitchen (i.e cooker), old or broken plastic chairs and tables in the terrace or swimming pool. The living room is absolutely cluttered, not only with decoration but specially with personal photos (we counted 102!). 4. Covid-19 We did not feel secure. The housekeeper received us without a mask and the lack of cleanliness was so visible that we started by disinfecting all door handlers. The poor standard of cleanliness is already unacceptable under normal circumstances, let alone during the Covid crisis. About the host Mr. José Pires de Lima was very nice before and during our stay. He responded to our written complaints and acknowledged all the issues. We even agreed he would compensate us financially (20% discount). However, once the stay was over, his tone changed, and the compensation received was only around 10%... Very disappointing.
