The St. Jude Tree Farm might be what Davis and Bryan had in mind when they sang, “you can’t buy happiness, but you can buy dirt.” While you can’t rent happiness either, you can rent the SJTF. The SJTF offers family R and R with scenic views from a 900 sq. ft. deck, a 3 -acre lawn, basketball courts (one indoors), and a stone patio with a fire “wall” (as opposed to "pit"). There are several wineries, restaurants, shops and sights within a convenient drive. The house at the SJTF was built in 2010. It has 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a loft and an open kitchen, dining, living area with a fireplace in the center. The deck looks out over an expansive lawn that slopes down to a wooded ravine with mountainsides in the distance.
This place was perfect and peaceful. It felt very warm and welcoming, as the hosts were since day one. Communication was always there. We loved the stay, would of stayed longer if we could. Perhaps a future relaxing summer vacation stay.
Beautiful location and a perfect place for friends to gather. John was extremely helpful and accommodating.
Loved the million dollar view and a huge yard to walk the dog. Binoculars allowed us to bird watch. The house is very comfortable and we enjoyed a wood fire inside. There are indoor games to play & books to read. The kitchen had everything we needed (nice keurig coffee assortment). This is a place to relax. I presumed there was internet & wifi and my family was disappointed that there is none. John is easy to communicate with.
Our lane is a private, gravel road serving The St. Jude Tree Farm along with other private homes. One of the private homes is visible from the tree farm house, the others are not. The lane ascends a short but fairly steep incline to a plateau that was once part of a 200-acre commercial Christmas tree nursery. The nursery was subdivided in the early 2000s into approximately ten parcels.
There is ample parking on our driveway. There are two garage doors into the barn and guests may park inside the barn if they wish to do so. The doors are manually operated. The hilly terrain in the immediate vicinity is not conducive to leisurely biking, but the back roads are lightly travelled and scenic if you don't mind the hills. There is a covered bridge about one mile downhill from us.
The crest of Dressler Ridge Road (also within a mile) is a climb, but the panoramic view may well be worth it. A trek up Gamby Hill Road is steep but the view at the top is spectacular.
