The Borgo Giannotti is considered almost an extension of the historical walled centre, famous for artisans and where merchants used to sell their wares from the Garfagnana and other regions. Cute cobbled street, cafes, restaurants, and other food and clothing shops. It is a cute village neighbourhood with a beautiful park and river just at the end of the street. Only a 6 minute walk to Porta Santa Maria Gate and the historic centre. There is a huge market on Wednesdays and Saturdays selling clothing, shoes, fruit and vegetables food and homewares. There's also a slow food organic market Saturday mornings just up on the bridge by the river.

The LAM Verde bus takes you into the historical centre and to the train station and is a stones throw from the apartment if you don't want to walk into the centre. You can buy tickets for the bus at the Tabaccheria right across the road from the apartment. You cannot buy them on the bus. They are Euro 1.50 each and you can use the same ticket for 70 minutes from when you stamp it in the machine when you get on the bus. Be very careful as bus inspectors love to pounce and the fines are big for not having a valid ticket.
There is some free parking, but mainly paid street parking between 8h-20h . There is a giant parking lot where the weekly market is held just past a lovely restaurant called Osteria al Borgo.
The main bus station is at Piazzale Verdi near Piazza Napoleon with buses going everywhere you can imagine. The train station is near Porta San Pietro a 15 minute walk through the. town or a quick bus ride away.
