When you’re ready to escape the stress of daily life, Black Fox Cabin is here for you! Whether alone, with your besties, or with your significant other, we promise that the dreamy screened porch will call to you. Savor your morning coffee from a lounge chair while soaking in the mountain views. Lazily rock back & forth in the hammock swings while sipping wine & enjoying the gentle sounds of the Cullasaja River. Come here to rest, relax, & finally get that “you time” you’ve needed so badly! Location: Black Fox Cabin is a convenient 2-2.5 hour drive from Atlanta, Greenville, & Chattanooga, so it 's the perfect place to visit when you want to escape the city! Situated at the bottom of the Cullasaja River Gorge, the house is an easy 10-15 minute drive from downtown Franklin and a 20-25 minute drive along the scenic Highlands Road to downtown Highlands. About 15 minutes up the road is Dry Falls - where you can park and walk behind the waterfall - and Bridal Veil Falls - a roadside waterfall that's popular for photo ops. We're also in near proximity to the Nantahala National Forest, Siler Bald (a relatively short hike up to spectacular 360-degree mountain views), Wayah Bald, and numerous other hikes to waterfalls and gorgeous scenery. The Cullasaja runs along our road and can easily be accessed by a short walk. If you turn left out of the driveway, you'll follow the river and enjoy scenic views of the mountains. To the right, you can follow the road up to a historic schoolhouse while enjoying close-up views and river access at the bridges. Eating/Dining: With easy access to both Franklin & Highlands, you'll have plenty of eating options, ranging from inexpensive local dives to upscale restaurants. For groceries, we have two large Ingles Markets within 20 minutes of the house. And should you prefer to cook, you'll not only have access to our fully-stocked kitchen -- with a large variety of pots, pans, oils, & spices -- but we also invite you to enjoy fresh rosemary, thyme, sage, basil, & other seasonal herbs that we grow in our kitchen garden. If eating in, dine al fresco around the outdoor dining table on the screened-in porch, or enjoy your dinner indoors around the spacious kitchen island. In the morning, prepare a large pot of coffee in the coffeemaker, or use the stovetop espresso pot and milk steamer to channel your inner barista! If tea is your preference, a kettle and an assortment of bagged and loose-leaf teas are at your disposal. Bedrooms: The unique master bedroom is part of an open, lofted area on the upper floor of the home and features a king-sized bed and ample clothing storage. For those wanting more privacy, the two additional rooms will suit your needs -- the upper bedroom features an additional king bed, and the downstairs bed is a queen. All of the beds feature soft cotton or linen bedding and down comforters. Bathrooms: There is a full bathroom on each level, and basic toiletries and bath linens are provided. The upstairs bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower, and the downstairs bathroom has a traditional bathtub/shower combination. Living Areas & Yoga Room: Downstairs, the living room is the perfect place to relax -- read, play a game (board and card games are located in the cabinets), listen to tunes on the record player, or enjoy a fire in the stone fireplace. In the upstairs loft, you can watch a movie or -- if you need to squeeze in a little work during your vacation -- use the complimentary WiFi and home office. If you're a yogi, you might want to "nama-stay" in the sunroom (fondly nicknamed "the yoga room") and vinyasa with a view -- a mat and props are available for your use. Porch: If you're like us, you'll likely spend most of your "house time" on the screened-in back porch. With four hammock chairs, two lounge chairs, a daybed, and an outdoor dining table, the porch is the perfect spot to take in picturesque mountain views and be lulled by the gentle sounds of the river. Enjoy sunrise views as well as lovely views of the moon and stars. And should you need a bit of extra light, you'll have a variety or romantic lighting options -- string lights, a candelabra chandelier, porch sidelights, and a bamboo overhead -- most of which have dimmer switches. On the rare days when the temperatures climb, the porch fan provides a cooling breeze. Out & About: In our guest book, we provide helpful information about the area including favorite hiking trails, attractions, and various dining options. If you need help planning your visit prior to your arrival, we're happy to be of assistance! In case you're wondering... Yes! This is the same Black Fox Cabin that had almost a hundred 5-star reviews and that was run by Logan. I was one of her many repeat visitors, and Logan knew how much I loved the cabin. When she got overwhelmed with running both Black Fox and her newly-launched business in town (Bent Willow Bakery), she asked if I'd be interested in taking over. I jumped at the chance! The cabin is every bit as magical as before, and we've added numerous upgrades as well.
We had an amazing stay at the Black Fox cabin over new year's. The house was so welcoming, comfortable, and beautifully decorated, full of cozy nooks with soft blankets at every turn. While we didn't use it much because of the cold, the outside porch was so lovely with hammock chairs and outdoor dining that would be great in the warmer months. The beds were SO comfy, the house was super clean, and the kitchen had literally everything you could need and more (we cooked every night). Everything about the house was welcoming and homey, but still felt like a vacation. There were some really great hikes about 30 minutes away - Siler Bald was a rec from Ginger, and was our favorite hike of the trip. Absolutely beautiful! Franklin was so cute - we explored several bookstores, gift shops, the outdoor store, and had a delicious burger at Graff's. Ginger was the best host ever, and offered great recommendations, was super accommodating, and genuinely wanted us to have a great stay. Thank you!
We cannot say enough good things about our wonderful month long stay. The moment we walked in the door we felt at home. The house is immaculate and beautifully decorated. The huge back porch/deck is fantastic and very comfortable to enjoy the stunning scenery of mountains, and trees. When you go for a walk you can enjoy the river too. The huge kitchen is magnificent, the three bedrooms all have very comfortable beds and bedding. The bathrooms are large. The personal touches with soaps, shampoo's, live plants, and even crackers and cheese in case we wanted something upon arrival were very nice. There is a large TV room with a big screen smart tv. There are a number of acres here, you cannot see another house from the property. Ginger gave us great recommendations on things to do that were personalized to my requests. This whole Franklin area is beautiful. We did not want to leave, nor did our Labrador. We will definitely be back next year.
Close to town but not “too close”, Black Fox offers you mountain views on a road that parallels the Cullasaja River and is mainly used by residents. From the driveway, walk left to follow the Cullasaja and enjoy scenic views of mountains, pastures, and the river. Head right to cross over several bridges providing river & creek views. If you keep going, you’ll reach a historic schoolhouse near the intersection with beautiful Highlands Rd.
Since we’re located between the eclectic town of Franklin and the upscale town of Highlands (less than 20 minutes in either direction), you’ll have a plethora of options for dining, shopping, hiking, and sightseeing. After doing these things, come back and enjoy the privacy of our location. We have one neighbor whose small cabin is visible in the winter months, but he's rarely there (2-3 times per year) and he is quiet and very kind.
Black Fox is located at the top of a paved driveway (no twists or turns) and has a flat, gravel parking area at the top. Our road has very little traffic, so it’s perfect for walking or jogging.
Within 20 minutes of the house, you’ll have your choice of several large, well-stocked Ingles Markets (groceries) and a variety of eating options—ranging from a local dive about 5 minutes away to casual dining in Franklin and upscale dining in Highlands. Along the road to Highlands, you’ll encounter two popular waterfalls – Dry Falls and Bridal Veil. You can park and walk behind beautiful Dry Falls (highly recommended, as it is spectacular!) or occasionally spot newlyweds taking photos at Bridal Veil Falls. The drive to nearby Highlands is winding, but it provides gorgeous views of the Cullasaja River Gorge, the river itself, and the soft, gentle mountains of Western NC.

Hi there! I’m Ginger. My husband, John, and I live near Atlanta. We’re avid hikers & travelers and love getting away to the mountains every chance we get. We are founding members of the Atlanta United soccer club, and we're also big college football fans. When we aren't hiking or watching sports events, you'll likely find me outside gardening and John inside brewing batches of beer. We look forward to meeting you, whether online or in-person!
