This neighbourhood sprang up in the 1920's as a housing project for the workers of the developing portuary system of Rome. Following a 'socialist' philosophy of supporting the working class, a number of modern housing blocks with communal parks and gardens were built up. It was meant to foster a sense of community, equality and empowerment amongst the residents. A bold experiment for the times. Now, it is a quiet, clean and nice neighbourhood with character and plenty of services. Served by the Garbatella metro, the Ostiense train station and bus lines it is close to all of Rome's attractions. You can even walk to the Appia Antica regional park.

In the area, there is the Garbatella metro stop, in addition to the many trams and buses that lead to every corner of the capital.
