Located close to the Soulard fun with a private feel. Centrally located, historic neighborhood with a private parking spot. My 1 bedroom is in a central location within a short walk of a grocery store, Walgreens, local farmers market, and the bars/restaurants in Soulard. It's also located along the historic Route 66 highway which extend from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA. The apartment has a fairly standard layout for a 1 Bdrm Soulard apartment with the living space and kitchen separated from the bedroom and bathroom by a long hallway. It conveniently separates the two spaces to reduce noise in the event multiple people are occupying the apartment. The living space has two sofa sleeper sectionals in a conversation pit arrangement. The sofa sleepers are easily converts to two side by side queen size beds. Just slide the coffee table toward the TV and pull the sliding section under the main sofa cushion forward using the fabric handles in the middle. Once the moving section is pulled forward lift up on the fabric handles to lift the remaining part of the bed section to be level with the rest of the sofa. Repeat the process for the second sofa sleeper. Additional linens and pillows can be found in the hidden stow area below the chaise sectional cushion by pulling upward on at the foot of the cushion. Finally prep the bed and you are ready to sleep or just Netflix and chill on a huge party bed. There is a small entertainment system in the living room. It has a Roku smart TV. The TV is linked to my Hulu, Sling, Amazon Prime Movie and Netflix account in addition to other content. Behind the sofa in the living space is a small work table perfect for a laptop. If you articulate the TV mount out from the wall and sit at the desk you can cast your computer to the TV to make a good impromptu workspace... either that or just sit on the couch. Next to the desk is a raised dining table that accommodates two people seated. The kitchen is a galley style and has the essentials you will need to prepare a meal. The pots and pans can be found in the lower cabinet to the left of the stove. Various type of drinking glasses can be found in the upper cabinet to the left of the stove. Utensils can be found in the pull out drawer to the left of the stove. Dishes can be found in the upper cabinet to the right of the stove. The ice machine has been acting up lately and may not be creating ice. The dishwasher at the moment serves as a drying rack and needs to be replaced. The bedroom has a queen size adjustable bed. The remote can be found on the night stand. The bathroom is accessed from the bedroom. The place will comfortably sleep 6 people between the queen bed and two queen sofa sleepers. The apartment resides on the 1st floor in a 4 family building that was built in the 1880s (no ghosts to my knowledge). The building has been recently rehabbed. Access to the apartment is at the back of the building up a short flight of stairs. There is a front door to the apartment but due the lack of street parking out in front of the building the front door has minimal use. Three parking spots are available directly behind. Additional off street parking is available in the alley or on a well lit street (Tucker St.) just up the block. Please consult the parking guidance image provided in the listing photos. The building resides on a quiet block isolated from the rest of the Soulard madness. There are a few vacant buildings across the street that are part of a failed development plan during the last housing crisis. Most were purchased by the City of St. Louis land acquisition department in preparation of sale to the developer. Unfortunately these buildings are awaiting a new development plan and make the area look shabby. Please G00gle Maps Street View the intersection of Tucker and Soulard (the closest intersection to the building) to see if it meets your sensibilities. I'd prefer you not book my apartment if you are going to give me a negative location review. Again the area is safe and I would have moved long ago had I believed it wasn't.
Awesome little place to stay, loved everything about it. Super happy it was pet friendly, my dog adjusted well and was comfortable all day in her crate while my family and I visited the zoo. Loved the decor. Awesome bed that adjusts.
Good place to stay in St. Louis. Just down the road from the heart of the city. The apartment is clean and looks nice. Host was nice, responsive and laid out all information clearly prior to check in. The only slight issue was the exterior noise at times. But this isn’t a big problem overall. You are in the middle of a city, so not much getting away from noise. I would stay again!
The Soulard neighborhood was established in the late 1700s after the French established the fur trading outpost of St. Louis. The neighborhood is named after the French surveyor Antoine Soulard.
The neighborhood is located immediately South of Downtown St. Louis. It has a relaxed vibe. The local residents refer to Soulard as the island because in many ways it is self sufficient having all the essentials to where you don’t have to leave its confines. It’s best known for the Soulard Farmers Market, bars and restaurants, Mardi Gras and Octoberfest celebrations, and the Anheuser-Busch brewery.
The neighborhood gets lively on the weekends and the nights of sporting events when people from the St. Louis region come down to enjoy the neighborhood bars and restaurants. The core of the bar and restaurants are within walking distance of the apartment but far enough away to avoid the inconvenience of noise or parking issues. Many of the bars and restaurants offer free live music and have shuttles to sporting events and other events downtown.
The Soulard market is within walking distance of the apartment. The market was established by the widow of Antoine Soulard to serve as a place where farmers could sell fresh produce. The market is an open air farmers market that is very lively on Saturday mornings. The market offers a variety of vendors and you can find almost anything you need at discounted prices. The market area also features a park where neighborhood events and festivals are held throughout the year. The market operates from Wednesday-Saturday with a full compliment of vendors on Saturday.
At the Southern boundary of the neighborhood you will find the Anheuser-Busch brewery. Throughout the year the smells fresh wort from the brewing process fill the air of the neighborhood. The brewery offers free tours along which includes a guided visit to the stables that house the iconic Clydesdales, the various buildings that comprise the brewing facility, and ends with a free trip to the brew garden for a few free libations.
The apartment has quick access to downtown which is about 5 minutes by car. If I don’t take advantage of the free bar shuttles, it is about a 15-20 minute walk to the Busch Stadium in about . There is quick access to HW-70, HW-55, HW-44 and HW-40/64 making the commute from Soulard to other parts of the city and Illinois very convenient. Also do to the proximity to downtown there is good access to public transportation.
There are many options to get around the neighborhood and the city in general. Many of the popular restaurants and bars in the neighborhood are within walking distance of my rental, many of which offer free shuttles to sporting events and other events downtown. I offer two bikes with the rental so you can pedal around the neighborhood/city if you want.
There is another Airbnb listing in the building so the bikes are 1st come 1st serve. If they are gone don't fret because there are plenty of Lime bikes and scooters in the neighborhood that can be accessed for a nominal fee of the Lime app from a smart phone. The building is conveniently located near access to public transportation. The St. Louis Metro system can efficiently get you to most major attractions (Busch Stadium, St. Louis Zoo, Art Museum, Muny, Airport) in the metropolitan area. Other than that I would recommend taking Uber or Lyft. Cab service in St. Louis can be hit or miss and they tend not to follow the cab light protocols to broadcast if they are currently transporting a fare.
