The historic Old Bakehouse combines grandeur with all the traditional warmth and welcome of a country guest house. Our four bedrooms have been lovingly updated, each with their own signature style, but all staying true to the building’s original 19th century roots. The three double rooms and one twin room all include en-suite bathrooms, free wi-fi, TV with Freeview and tea and coffee facilities. Cyclists can secure their bikes inside the building. After a restful night’s sleep, start every morning with a hearty cooked breakfast or enjoy a range of fresh fruits, cereals and breads in our dining room. Then plan your days out in the beautiful Axe Valley or visit the nearby Jurassic Coast for swimming, fossil hunting or spectacular cliff-top walks. Other local activities include golf courses, horse-riding and access to great cycle paths. Later, you can relax in our lounge, browse our extensive bookshelves or listen to vinyl on the record player.
Colyton is a charming, historic town, known as the most rebellious in Devon for its role in the Monmouth Rebellion in 1685. You can find out more about its colourful past at the town’s Heritage Centre. Today Colyton has a population of just over 2,000 people and boasts a wide range of small businesses, including pubs, cafes, a butcher, fishmonger, general store with post office, garden shop, pet accessories shop, chemist and even a cycle shop. The town is popular with walkers, families and as a base for explorers of the world famous Jurassic Coast. The focal point of the town is the Church of St Andrew, established in Norman times. The Seaton Tramway terminates at nearby Kingsdon on the other side of the River Coly.
Colyton is a small town, with easy walking access to all amenities, including the pubs, cafes, shops and the local Church of St Andrew. There is a public car park in the town centre, which now includes two new EV chargers, able to rapid charge up to four electric cars at one time. The Seaton Tramway service stops at a station in Crownhayne Lane, Kingsdon, Colyton, which is about ten minutes walk from the Old Bakehouse. The tram takes about 15 minutes to reach Seaton. There is also a bus service which runs through Colyton and serves Seaton, Beer and Axminster. South Western Railway trains run from Axminster Station to London and Exeter.
