Relax with the whole family at the beautiful Green Gables Acres in the quiet homesteading community of Kenny Lake. Located at the edge of the Wrangel St. Elias National Park, Green Gables is just minutes from the Copper River at the top of the Tonsina bluff — where the salmon run abundantly. With the Chugiak mountains as a backdrop, and open fields that share the story of hard working men and women, this home boasts a full kitchen, laundry, bath: a full (and comfortable!) Alaskan experience. One bedroom upstairs with a comfy double bed. A pull out couch in the living room. A queen bed in the large shop room and several blow up queen and full mattresses for the shop part of the living space. Lots of sleeping options.
Hannah is very accommodative to our request, and the house is very cozy for a small family. Would definitely stay again if I’m back in the area.
Hannah has thought of *everything.* Her space was so clean and cozy that we barely left, whoops. You cannot beat this location, cleanliness, spaciousness, decor and personal touch. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable place in a gorgeous area!
Green Gables is a special place with an exceptionally generous host. It wasn’t just the beautiful setting and property that made our stay so incredible. It was Hannah’s kindness. She left cookies and Moose chili for us on the stove, plus fresh salmon and Moose roast to take home. We collected eggs for breakfast and road her four-wheeler to the bluff (which is an absolute must-see). The details of the little house were warm, trendy, and inviting. I couldn’t get enough of her taste in decor and her taste in books! It was all clearly loved and clearly cared for. It’s the kind of place that leaves a mark on you forever.
If you ever have the opportunity to stay at this Green Gables home, take it! Hannah sent us detailed arrival instructions which made our late night check- in uneventful. She remained extremely responsive and helpful during our stay and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. There was moose chili and Alaskan caught salmon in the fridge when we arrived and we had freshly laid eggs for breakfast the next day. The house was so well decorated but remained comfortable and cozy. She provided a pack n play and there was a well stocked kids corner that had lots of fun toys. We cannot wait to go back to Kenny Lake for another restful weekend at Hannah’s!
Fantastic space - brand new, sparkling clean and great for a couples or family stay. Full kitchen with everything needed to cook a full meal and free fresh eggs from the chickens next door! Huge living area with TV/Netflix, and heaters throughout for the winter. Good internet connection. Fairly remote location (easy to find with host’s directions) so need a car and I would advise bringing all food etc. you need with you as there isn’t a lot nearby in terms of dining or large supermarkets. Super cosy - we loved it and would recommend if you want to get away from it all for a few days :)
Need recommendations on things to do?
I got you covered:
Liberty Falls Hike - Beautiful Views - Chitina - Last stop before McCarthy - Fish Wheels - Dip netting - OBrien Creek - Copper River
Wrangell St. Elias National Park - office near Glennallen with nature walks / Princess Lodge for food and WISE nature hikes
Valdez - fishing / hatchery / Keystone Canyon waterfalls / Raft the Lowe River / end of the pipeline / eat at a local restaurant / good museums / walk the docks / go kayaking / take a Stan Stevens Ocean Charter
McCarthy/Kennicott — an adventure just to get there. 60 miles from Chitina on a dirt road, occasionally not maintained well (so check your rental car company if they allow you to drive it) the history of this place is amazing… Copper mining from the early 1900’s — now with a funky seasonal community and lots of rich history and things to explore and see — good food, the Lodge often needs reservations so it’s worth calling — fun and exciting destination for true Alaskan adventure in the Wrangell Park.
Four wheeler trips to the bluff to see the Tonsina and Copper Rivers — talk to host about renting four wheelers. Go get ice cream at the local ice cream shop (Where’s The Lake?) at the Wengers Country Store. Friday Farm market is at the Kenny Lake Community Hall every Friday (often they have horse rides with 4H).
自我介绍
If you’ve ever seen Anne of Green Gables you will realize quickly why we named our property Green Gables: Not because Rachel Lyn lives next door, but because our fields of green are magical, the trail to the bluff overlooking the Tonsina River is full of scope for the imagination, the Copper River Silt is better than the dunes of Nova Scotia, and the adventures of each day are exciting for locals and tourists alike. Welcome to beautiful Alaska!
