We have just returned from a lovely break at Pen Glan Cottage with two whippets and we absolutely loved the location, the fact that there is an enclosed garden area and space to park on the drive makes unloading, loading and life with the dogs much easier. We found a different place to walk each day and really appreciated the guest info we were sent out the week before - Coed Gell Garth and obviously the Mawddach Trail and Precipice Walk and Cadair Idris are all great recommendations, something for all abilities. I know the pub is lovely too though we didn't go this time and it's great to be near the sea and mountains. I thought the attention to detail and care for guests was lovely, great comfy beds and all the facilities you could think of - WiFi, washing machine, dishwasher, nice warm areas to work and live in, logburner, fully equipped kitchen. Thank you, we'll be back x
Our family of four had a fabulous stay at Julie's. The pictures do not do the cottage justice, it was beautiful, quirky, yet completely practical and comfortable. We all slept wonderfully and the girls did not want to leave! Julie was very responsive and made the whole booking very easy.
It is a cozy house and very well equipped. Spacious sitting area with nice wood stove. The kitchen has everything you need. The bathroom is a bit tight, but has a wonderful shower. Beds are comfortable. The surroundings are beautiful! We have made beautiful walks (lot of routes on alltrails). George III has a cozy terrace with a beautiful view for a drink. You can walk there in a few minutes, along a road without sidewalks.
We stayed here with our two dogs for 4 nights. Perfect cottage to bring your dogs as it has leather sofas which they’re allowed on and an enclosed garden. Just a 5 minute walk down the road you’ll find a pub/ restaurant and the Mawddach Trail which you can walk one way to Barmouth or the other to Dolgellau. Host had good communication and very accommodating, going above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant stay. Cottage was clean and tidy with everything you could need for your stay.
Pen Glan is one of 7 stone cottages built in 1800's to house local estate workers, situated in the quiet hamlet of Penmaenpool, next to the Mawddach Estuary and located at the base of Cader Idris mountain range - the second highest mountain in wales and great for getting way from the crowds on Snowdon. It is a great holiday destination all year round - perfect for combining the many outdoor pursuits on offer in Snowdonia with relaxing days out on the soft sandy beaches of Barmouth, Fairbourne and Aberdovey
The beautiful market town of Dolgellau is 2 miles away with its’ shops, cafes, restaurants (and bike hire) and the fabulous beaches of Barmouth and Fairbourne are around 8 miles. There is a bus service (28) that passes through
Fairbourne, Penmaenpool (bus stop just near the cottage) and Dolgellau and another (T3) that goes from Barmouth to Dolgellau and stops off at the other side of the Penmaenpool Toll Bridge (Hawddamor Taicynhaeaf).
The 38 also goes between Dolgellau and Barmouth. They can be really useful if you just want to walk to Barmouth along the estuary and catch a bus back (NB the bus is free on a Sunday but charges for everyone, including dogs at
other times). One of the bus stops is right outside the Last Inn pub – a great place to have a drink before catching the bus back.
We have off road parking for 2 cars as well as a layby across the road if needed
