Osprey Cottage is an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of 21st century life, whether you are in the lakes for relaxation, culture, sightseeing or adventure, you are in a prime location within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Lake District National Park. Situated in the popular village of Bassenthwaite, the property benefits from amazing views looking south towards Bassenthwaite Lake, Catbells and the Borrowdale Valley and takes in some stunning sights of the surrounding Northern Lake District Fells. Cockermouth is a quieter 800 year old market town, again with lots of shops and places to eat. It is the birthplace of William Wordsworth and another famous son is Fletcher Christian who led the mutiny on ’The Bounty’. Cockermouth sits on the junction of two major rivers Derwent and Cocker and is the home to Jennings Brewery. The property has no rear garden and although there is a lovely garden which can be seen from the rear windows, it does not belong to this cottage. Shops 8 miles, pub and restaurant ¾ mile. Beautiful and cosy, it had everything we needed for our stay. The area is very quiet and accessible to the local northern fells.
Lovely cottage, well located, close to most things you'd want to go to. The only thing we did not expect was there to be no central heating. To heat the cottage, you must light the fire in the living room & keep it lit for a few hours for it to heat the radiators in the house. Luckily, there was a portable heater you could place in the room as the cottage would get very cold if you were out for a few hours. The cottage was very cosy, generally well equipped although make sure to bring salt & pepper if you plan on cooking.
A cosy place to stay. Kitchen was well equipped Overall a relaxed feel in a small terraced cottage. It was always warm. The upstairs radiators are warmed via the fire, which we liked and enjoyed having it lit in the evening. Richard and Tina were very responsive and good hosts. They sorted out an electrician for the immersion heater as it had an electrical problem and was not heating the water when we arrived. The shower is electric so it was only the bath and washing up which needed hot water and once fixed it was all good. The description is a fair one and we would stay again.
