It has has been converted into a quirky holiday cottage and is situated inside the Bremenium Roman Fort, itself built on an Iron Age site, surrounded by evidence of its Roman past, including the visible remains of the gates to the fort, Roman crematoria on Dere Street and grassy outlines of buildings beneath. Today it provides a simple, peaceful, cosy retreat in north west Northumberland, and several rivers and streams are within an easy walk. The area is a designated Dark Sky Park making this an idyllic retreat for stargazers or astronomers. The Scottish border and northern stretch of the Pennine Way are just six miles away across moors.
