We were really looking forward to our first trip to OBX. Vacasa, the company that manages the property really fell short. The cons We requested early check in but not only did we not receive that, we actually could not even check in at 6pm. We were sitting in the driveway at 5:55pm when we were notified via text that we could not check in until 7pm. Traveling 8 hours with this last minute change was frustrating. We went to dinner and came back at 7:30pm, where the cleaning staff were still cleaning the house. We did not receive any more notifications of the additional set back. We were finally able to check in right before dark. Vacasa did not bother offering anything for this. However, they do make it clear you will be charged for a full day if you are one hour late at check out. Upon entering the house, we discovered it was just rush cleaned. Two bathrooms were still dirty, one of which contained feces in it. There was also a dead fly in the floor, showing the floors were likely not very clean. The screened in porch has 3 screen panels ripped and or torn so they did not offer any protection from the mosquitoes. The grill was in poor condition. It seemed the grates or burners needed to be replaced or cleaned as it would go out every few minutes and would never reach above 300. The "easy" walk to the beach was actually half a mile just to thr boardwalk. Even the lady at the front desk at the rental company could not believe it was advertised as the listing stated. The community pool was a 5 minute drive down the road. There are two pools very close to the property, but they are for others. The room with twin beds needs new mattresses. The good The sunsets on the sound side are beautiful. Access to paddle boards and kayaks were really nice. Having two large decks with views of the sound were nice, however they need to be replaced as they are both splintery. The kitchen was more than fully stocked with cookware.

I’ll start by saying we really enjoyed the house and would definitely recommend it to others and we would stay here again in a heartbeat! Here are some specific details... The Pros: Views - The views are incredible. They truly gave us joy everyday. Spent hours on the deck enjoying the sunsets and the waves. The decks are huge and have plenty of Adirondack chairs. Lots of access to the decks - I think 4 different sets of sliding glass doors! The Sound - This is a great place to use SUPs and fishing. It’s ideal for water sports and fun to watch kite-boarders and windsurfers. Spacious - The house has plenty of room to spread out, both in and outside. Lots of room for sleeping, lounging, dining. Location - This was a great spot. Close to restaurants, shops, Food Lion. The house is in a nice little area. Communication - Pleasant and prompt communication with Molly from Vacasa. Clean - The housekeepers did a good job cleaning the house, for the most part. See cons for specifics on this. The Cons: Dock - Specifically, there is no dock. There is a wooden walkway to the sand/marsh area but it ends before the water. This makes it more difficult to access the sound. The lovely dock you see in the pictures belongs to the neighbors. Wear and Tear - The house is great but it is showing some signs of wear and tear. Things like the couches are squishy/lacking support, the screened porches have some large rips in the screens, the hot tub is patched in a few places. Bathrooms could use an upgrade. Trash cans - outside trash cans have no lids. We came down one morning to find the trash bag chewed up with trash spread around the carport. We asked for lids but didn’t receive them. There is a dumpster in the neighborhood you can use so we just took our food trash there, no big deal. Clean - The house was nice and clean with a few exceptions - we found a few dead bugs - a water bug in the bedroom, a pill bug in one of the bathrooms and a spider in the closet. Nothing scary but still, I would have rather not have had that. Also, multiple dead flies in the chandelier in the dining room. Deck wood - The deck is so fantastic but the wood is a little splintered so I would suggest wearing shoes out there. My son got a few splinters. Kayaks - A sign inside the house listed the kayaks available for our use but they were locked, so weren’t able to access them. I should have contacted Vacasa earlier to unlock but waited until later in the week and then it was too cold. Not their fault. All in all, the house is lovely. We enjoyed it and you will too!

This place was perfect for what we were looking for. The bedrooms and bathrooms were great. There were 9 of us and the set up was perfect. The sunsets from the porch were incredible like nothing I’ve ever seen in person. Well worth the money.
