Dalby Forest is situated on the southern slopes of the North York Moors National Park and offers over 8,000 acres of woodland to explore and enjoy. There are play areas for children, barbecue areas and plenty of way marked cycling and walking trails, from family friendly to the UCI World Cup course for the brave. There is even a cycling hire shop if you don’t want to make use of the cottages own bike store. Nearby you will also find one end of the famous Lyke Wake Walk, not for the faint hearted, as the full route across the North York Moors National Park can take in excess of 24 hours! There is so much more to see and do in the area with many National Park villages and traditional pubs to visit, to rushing through the National Park on a steam train, taking in the sights and sounds. The dramatic Yorkshire coast is a short drive away, with wonderful Whitby with its ancient cobbled streets filled with amazing shops and tea rooms. The Abbey towers down from East Cliff, with its links to Bram Stokers ’Dracula’, and there is an up and coming foody scene. Plenty of award winning fish and chip shops are still very popular, but there’s plenty of bistro gastro pubs and international cuisine on offer. And there is always something happening in the town from Goth Weekenders to a Regatta. Neighbouring Scarborough has two sweeping sandy bays and a more traditional seaside resort feel, as well as an open air theatre with international bands, a water park and a sea life centre.
