An hour from East London & 20kms before the EC coastline meets the Kei River this unique space offers the rugged beauty of the Transkei, within a secure gated estate. Perched on a dune above the beach-the waves will keep you up at night. The layout is best for 4-6adults and their children. The cottage is in a small, private nature conservancy with home-owners -don’t consider this stay if all guests will not respect this. Strictly no pets or noise. Booking request must have AirBNB ID+reviews. The home was originally built on the farm as a modest beach cottage and later became a much loved rustic family home. Today - three generations on, the thatched cottage remains in its original form. It provides basic but spacious and comfortable accommodation for you to enjoy your beach holiday with daily views that not many parts of the world could provide. The kitchen has raw wood cupboards and work spaces and is equipped with 2 fridges, deep freeze, gas stove top, electrical oven, microwave, kettle, juicer, filter coffee machine to facilitate your stay. There is electricity supply so the home is subject to loadshedding per SA loadshedding schedule (that is mounted in the kitchen). Emergency torches are provided and the gas stove top can be manually lit during outages. Behind the house is a built-in braai outside the dining room which is useful in the wind. We prefer to wheel the large mobile braai from the store room to the front of the cottage to enjoy a braai overlooking the beach. Be careful to ensure you are far enough away from the thatch. There is also a smaller mobile skottel (kettle) braai available to use. Inside there are 2 older bathrooms both with warm shower and bath; but our highlight and daily practice is the warm outside shower overlooking the beach (in rain, wind & shine!) The water supply is not municipal but from a local borehole (not drinkable).. The home operates on a septic tanks and strict no flush of foreign objects applies. The home is surrounded by wild bush forest and is private from the other homes in the estate; however being so close to the beach and alongside a natural forest the cottage is exposed to the natural elements. In rain and wind this can cause dust and sand - a housekeeper travels daily to spend the morning at the home to clean.
