Jasmine Cottage has been sympathetically modernised to give our guests present day comforts while retaining the old world character of the building. It is comfortably furnished, carpeted and well equipped, and in winter it is heated throughout. Free, unlimited car parking at the front of the property. Centrally located for visiting the Cities of Bath, Salisbury and Wells as well as Stonehenge, Avebury, Silbury Hill, the National Trust Village of Lacock, Castle Combe, Stourhead Gardens, Longleat House and Safari Park and much, much, more... Comfortably accommodates 2 to 6 people in 3 bedrooms. Easy flat walking distance to pub, restaurant and village shop. Open wood burning fire with free supply of wood. Fully equipped full-size kitchen including dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Free Parking available directly outside the Cottage. Free unlimited Wi-Fi wireless broadband Internet access - please bring your own laptop computer. Recipient of VisitEngland's Recognition of Service Excellence Award (ROSE), one of only 100 nationally.
I only had one complaint- the bed pillows were very uncomfortable to sleep on. They were hard. Other wise, the cottage was perfect for us - great location. I would definitely recommend staying here and if I get back to England would definitely stay here again.
Cottage is part of a lovely village and neighbours look very friendly even if we didn't have the occasion to have a chat. You will find a nice and clean house with everything you would need especially in the kitchen. The village is really well-located to discover well-known places as Bath (it's worth to spend there 2 days) or Stonehenge. In Trowbridge (10mns by car), you have a big Tesco opened at late hours and a railway station (look at gwr website) from which you can reach Bath, Bristol or Salisbury. Communication with Norman was easy and we definitely recommend this rental.
Steeple Ashton was one of the most important 'wool-towns' of the middle ages and from this time remain the exceptionally large Church of St Mary and many of the old buildings of the Village. We have often won the 'Best Kept Village Competition'.
There are many footpaths around the Village where you may be greeted by a cheery 'good morning' or 'good afternoon' by the locals. There is a village bus service to Trowbridge, Devizes and Bath.
The Village has a 'lockup' on the Village Green, used in the past to hold drunks whilst the Policeman was summoned, on his bicycle, from Trowbridge! Today, the 'lockup' houses the Village Green lawnmower.
Steeple Ashton has a Village Shop, about three minutes walking distance from Jasmine Cottage, specialising in local produce. It is also the Village Café and Post Office, You will be made most welcome there by the locals.
Steeple Ashton is ideally placed as a base to visit many of the prehistoric sites of Wiltshire including the world famous Stonehenge, Avebury Stone Circle, Silbury Hill, The Wandsdyke, Kennet Longbarrow and the many White Horses of the County (The nearest one is at Westbury, a ten minute drive away).
Easily accessible are the ancient and historic cities of Salisbury and Bath, Stourhead Gardens, the 'biscuit-tin' village of Castle Coombe, the National Trust village of Laycock, Westonbirt Arboretum, Bradford on Avon, Bowood House, Great Chalfield Manor, Longleat House with its Maze and Safari Park and much, much more...
Further afield are Cheddar Gorge, Bristol, the Cotswolds and the Jurassic Coast of Dorset.
Sports facilities, indoor and out, are available in Trowbridge, Devizes, Melksham and Swindon (Ice rink).
The world heritage City of Bath, 12 miles distant, has a very good night life and cultural events of all types.
