The House of Machrie is a substantial Victorian country house on the Isle of Arran. It is set in beautiful surroundings with fabulous coastal views across the Kilbrannan Sound to the Mull of Kintyre. Built over 100 years ago as the principal farmhouse on the island it encapsulates Scottish architecture through the ages with crow stepped roof gables and a circular tower, which houses the main staircase. It is surrounded by mature trees and overlooks its former kitchen garden and farmland. The house was extensively modernised and refurbished to a high standard in April 2019. and is now a modern sporting lodge on the Dougarie Estate accommodating 14 guests in 3 double rooms with en-suite bathrooms, 2 twin bedded rooms with en-suite shower rooms and 2 twin bedded rooms that share a bathroom. All twin bedded rooms can be configured as doubles if required. The house combines spacious and attractive bedrooms with lots of public space including an elegant drawing room, dining room, a family/TV/sitting room, a large fully fitted and equipped kitchen and a sea-facing conservatory. There is central heating throughout, with underfloor heating in the bathrooms, boot room, conservatory and kitchen and the house has fast wi-fi throughout. Outside there is a stone barn that has been converted into a games room and is a perfect space for games on a wet day. Domestic help can be arranged on a daily basis and is provided with full sporting packages. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the boot room and conservatory, we do however take a higher level of damages deposit from those bringing dogs in case of any eventualities. This is fully refundable after your stay.

We were here for Christmas and it worked perfectly for a mix of grandparents, parents and kids. The house has lots of places to be social or to retreat to. Just perfect.

Juliet has created such a beautiful home. The location is stunning and the perfect getaway. Everything was new and immaculate. Each one of our guests said it was the best air bnb they have ever stayed in and we didn't want to leave! If you're planning an escape to Arran I highly recommend staying here.

Activities we can Arrange by Request:
Lobster Potting and mackerel fishing
Go out in the boat to sea with our Boatman Graham to mackerel fish and pull up the 10-15 pots to check for lobsters and crab. Any catch the clients are allowed to keep as long as they are over the legal size requirement. Great activity for all ages. Adult, child and toddler life jackets provided.
Sea fishing
Fishing for pollock, mackerel and other species on a line.
Sea fly fishing can also be arranged, mainly for mackerel.
River Iorsa and Loch Iorsa fishing
Fly fishing for salmon and sea trout with a catch and release policy.
